Can I Hook up a Desktop to a Docking Station?

I'm buying a laptop for code development on the go.

Originally, I was going to buy a 15.6" computer but it seems like it might be a better idea to buy a smaller 13" or 14" and just have a docking station that would hook it up to 2 monitors, mouse and keyboard etc. when i'm at home.

Is the only requirement to get a docking station hooked up to your computer just an available USB 3 port? Is there a limit to what I can dock?

I also have an existing desktop so I would like the docking station to be allow me to work for the desktop and new laptop.

USB 3(/C) has been a bit of a shitshow, basically you need to read the fine print of the system specs to know which optional features it will support. Simply having a port available is no guarantee.

    • the fine print of what? the dock or the computer?

      • The computer.

  • nvm. see comments above.
