Hi, I Just Want to Look for a Good Samsung Phone I Am on a Budget. So, Is The S8 Worth It to Buy Now?

(First time making a post)

I am thinking to buy from this deal:

  • Note the item you linked is most likely grey import (oversea stock), which means no warranty/support from Samsung Australia.

I highly doubt the condition is 'Brand New', description mentions:

Original Packaging, charger, Memory Cards, SIM Cards, headsets not included

As for suggestions, if you also need a phone plan; the Samsung S10e from JB Hi-Fi is a decent purchase right now (also Bonus Galaxy Buds via Redemption).

Alternatively, if you don't need a phone plan; sign up for the above JB Hi-Fi Plan and pay the cancellation fee ($390). Works out to be ~$500 after cancelling.

If you don't want to spend as much, look into Samsung Galaxy A Range of Phone (A20, A30, A50, A70).

    • Regarding the A line, I want to stick to flagships (because I don't like how they are made out of plastic).

The S10e is too much for me right now.

      Thanks for the advice.

The Galaxy S8 phone you linked is $419; the Samsung Galaxy S10e works out to be ~$489 ($99 + $390 Cancellation Fee) from the JB Hi-Fi Deal.

        • Okay, I will think about that.

I can wait for a christmas sale. Hopefully I can afford the s10e.

        • With the S10e, isn't it $99 + $65 + $390 = $554?

(Handset, First month plan, Cancellation fee)

@silverrat23: Not 100% sure, but I thought you paid pro rata, so it not the full $65.

            • @RichardL: Hmmm, I presume no-one has successfully pulled this off yet, due to the backlog on Telstra's end?

    • What about this one? Is this safe to buy?

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-in-Box-Samsung-Galaxy-…

      • From description:

        US-PIN Wall Charger

        Looks like US Stock.

        • Thanks for replying fast, whats wrong with that?

          • @[Deactivated]: Only major issues is no warranty/support from Samsung Australia.

Also different frequency bands (no B28, etc).

            • @RichardL: …okay, could you please find me a phone from Ebay? Because I don't know from which seller to buy from. You saved my ass.

            • @RichardL: it has to be only samsung s7 edge or s8.

              • @[Deactivated]: Unfortunately finding brand new for those model won't be easy, as the phone is 2-3 years old now.

Also the Samsung S7 line won't receive anymore major updates (no OneUI), and the S8 will be next…

In my opinion, save up and get a newer model phone.

If you insist on the S7 edge/S8, I suggest you look at refurbished stock.

@RichardL: I don't care if they are old phones, three years old is not much of a difference. They are still flagships and will be better than all of the budget phones, such as the A line. I also need one with a good camera, the s7 edge got a score of 88 points for its camera. And no way I will be getting refurbrished phones, thats stupid.

                  • @[Deactivated]:

three years old is not much of a difference

There's definitely a significant difference between phone released 3 years ago and a recent release phone…

I own the Samsung S7, and can confirm it a lot slower compared to recent budget phone.

                    • @RichardL: Yes, and how long you had the S7 for? I will be getting it new…

                    • @RichardL: Do you mean the s7 without the edge? Because I want the one with the edge.

                      • @[Deactivated]: I watched a video of the A20, and its camera is shit comparing to the S7.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Nvm ignore this question.

                      • @[Deactivated]: I own the standard S7 (not edge), but the specs are similar (same CPU, GPU, etc).

                        • @RichardL: How long have you had it for?

                          • @[Deactivated]: I got it since released, but have since factory reset the phone.

Definitely not the same as brand new, but not much difference besides the battery life.

                            • @RichardL: Exactly since release, so if I get it brand new then it would be good right??

                              • @[Deactivated]: no. they are way past EOL. any "new" phone will have a shit battery or will have been replaced, and not be new.

why can't you do the s10e deal from jb hifi mentioned above? you'll be paying $489 (many have had the cancellation fee of $390 waived). you can the wireless earphones which you can easily sell for $100 (up to probably $150). also has local 24 months warranty

                                • @follow: Because, I'm on job seeker. Been waiting 13 weeks to get paid. My job provider told me that, I have to wait untill November 6th.

                                  • @[Deactivated]: how much do you have to spend? does it have to be Samsung? are you opposed to Xiaomi or Oppo or Nokia?

                                    • @follow: I am saving my money atm, just buying necessary items (for cheap). I don't want to spend from my capital, thats why I'm waiting for my job seeker payment. This is too priavte to say, hope you understand. But, they should pay me at least 1,000$ from my waiting period.

                                    • @follow: Xiaomi is not bad, but its from China meh.. Oppo and Nokia not sure about them. I also heard that Chineese phones don't last long.

                                      • @[Deactivated]: Have had many phones over the years and had a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for about 2 years now with heavy use and still have not needed to do a factory re-set and still as new and speedy as my mums S8+ although hers has nicer bigger screen and much better camera etc.

    • Fine I might get this what do you think? This is from an Ozbargain deal:

      https://auspost.com.au/shop/product/vodafone-samsung-galaxy-…

      • Just note that it's locked to Vodafone.

        • yea, true forget it.

    Why limit yourself to Samsung…

Motorola G7 is a great phone for a fraction of the price of others.

    • Because I trust Samsung. My first phone was the S2 and it was great.

  • Samsungs are great phone but a lot of manufacturers have caught up like LG and Oppo and Motorola
Take a look at Jbhifi for other choices,
I have Samsung S8 and its fine, but we bought a few of these for the office and have had NO issues

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/oppo-ax7-glaring-gold

    • The LG v30+ display is shit the one going for 399$ in jbhifi. Samsung still has the dominate displays.

I went from my S8+ to One Plus 7P and was a great move,

I found my S8+ became rather slow even after resets & updates.

  • +2

    Get a samsung a30 or a50.

Does everything you need without having to pay the S premium

  • +2

OnePlus is much better than Samsung S8.

I moved from S8 to OnePlus 7 and it was the best decision made.

S8 is very slow whereas OnePlus is super fast

    • hm okay, thanks for that.

  • Nah get the Galaxy Fold.

    • Bro, thats like 2,000$
