eBay - Item Not Received

I ordered a few hard drive mounts on 07/09 and still haven't received it. The estimated delivery time is 25/09 - 31/10. If I still don't receive it in 5 days, what does the process for getting cash back look like? Would it be look something like this?

  • Contact the seller
  • Seller then either:
    • ignores you for 8 days
    • offers to resend the item and expect another 1-2 months wait (after which you may not receive it and be out of luck asking ebay to step in)
    • says they'll refund you but doesn't and stalls out the 8 days
  • Ask ebay to step in https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/default/ask-ebay-to-step-…

I remember years ago Paypal had a deadline after which the buyer couldn't get their payment refunded. Is there still a similar deadline?

Paypal buyer protection covers you for up to 180 days.

Let the seller know there's a problem with the transaction by opening a dispute in the Resolution Centre within 180 days of making your payment. Then, escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days of the date you opened the dispute.

    • Thanks, that answers it. Surprised it's 180 days now. It used to be 1-2 months iirc.

You may be thinking of eBay's money back guarantee. That is much shorter.

        eBay Money Back Guarantee timelines
        Item not received

        • A buyer can report in My eBay that they didn't receive an item once the latest estimated delivery date has passed, and for 30 days after the latest estimated delivery date.

        • The seller has 3 full business days from the report date to respond to the buyer or offer a solution. If the seller does not respond or offer a solution, the buyer can ask us to step in and help.

        • If neither the buyer nor the seller asks us to step in within 21 business days of reporting that they didn't receive an item, the request closes automatically.

But, you paid with Paypal, you are simultanously protected by Paypals buyer protection policy as well as eBay's

  • Open an eBay money back dispute asap don't wait around I reckon. I had this lousy scammy seller on eBay muck me about with around a grand worth of items and dragged it over the 30 days eBay money back guarantee period saying the items would turn up. I trusted the guy because I had purchased from him earlier but he played me and a few other buyers as well going by all the negatives he received towards the end. Luckily PayPal decided in my favour after he did not respond to the PayPal dispute but not sure what would have happened if he had provided some bogus tracking or something.
