Sadly given this drone is over the 250g limit you will have to soon register it with the gov and just like car registration pay for the rego. New system for the gov to make money.

    • Drone registration, that's hilarious…

Delayed to 2022, not that soon

    • It's a once off rego of like $40 isn't it? Hardly the same as the $900 annual car rego we're copping these days

      • +1

As far as I know it lasts 12 months. And honestly, even if it was $1 , then that would be $1 too expensive.

        • The registration costs will vary by the purpose of the flying and size of the device. It’s estimate that it will cost $20 annually per person for recreational drones, and up to $160 annually for commercial drones.

Looks like you're right. I wonder how we'll go about getting the rego cancelled if the drone breaks? Register it for 1 day, tell them a propeller broke, ask for 364 days refund… rinse, repeat?

@King Steuart: I don't think it will be an issue, I doubt I'll register mine.

    • I read it somewhere that in Canada you will soon need a pilot licence to fly drones >250g… Yikes!

      • A drone pilot license, not a PPL.

I have a big yuneece drone and iv never taken it out side as it has to be resisted with the Gov since they changed the laws on drones

Heads up DJI is dropping a new under the 250g limit.

Don't know of Camera quality obviously, but if you're wanting the mavic air maybe hold off.

    https://dronedj.com/2019/10/24/dji-mavic-mini-399-price-tag/

    • I suspect this will be more in line with the Spark. Still, beating the casa weight restrictions with decent camera quality would be sweet.

    • If the 245gm weight is true, CASA will just change the law to 240gm or less, can almost count on it.

      • +1

haha yeah they'll amend what they're putting forward for 2022 to make sure it doesn't count ;)

    • What's the actual restriction? Or is it if it's under 250g you can pretty much fly it anywhere including national parks?

I realised that without the fly more combo it's just a toy. Really needs extra batteries and remote if you're going to be taking advantage of it, otherwise just get a toy drone for a quarter of the price.

    • It does come with a remote… Just not the batteries

      • You're right I meant the whole set etc.
