The title (and pic) suggests to me it's 2. Shame as I redeemed 20k for 2 older last week.

      • -8

I quoted the info from the site.

  • What's better.. The nest mini or home mini? Not sure if the difference..

    • +6

Nest mini is the upgrades home mini (V2). So nest mini for sure.

    • +6

Yeah nest mini has more microphones so they can hear your conversations more clearly. Definitely the better deal ;)

  • so this is the gen 2 for 15k points?

      Great album

  • Good use with the points! 2 x 2nd Gen Google Home mini (nest) worth $158 RRP

  • I’ve got 2 google minis already, is this basically the same thing?

    • +1

I am on the same boat, dont actually need one
Review said the sound quality has improved a lot

      This is the comparison video
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3L-jmWrxTU

    • Yep just better sound qual. Hard pass from me.

    • Think more bass

  • It says on the website that you can get 2,500 bonus points for setting up Telstra voice-activated calling. I set it up recently but did not get the bonus points. If I get it, I will have 15,000 points, including my 10,000 bonus points on signup. Not bad :)

    • +4

It also says that it starts from October 29; sucks for all those early adopters like myself who set it up the second it was announced …

      • +1

        I didn't see that.
Hmm…. Wonder what happens if I disconnect it and reconnect.
I also enquired in chat - will advise if I get an outcome.

        • +1

No luck - they pointed out that I connected too early.

      • how you set it up?

    • Hmm just set this up but haven't received any bonus points yet.

      • Just found out via chat its 3-5 days before credits are applied for any credits given

        • Thanks, will keep an eye on it then.

    • Is this for Telstra mobile customers only? I'm 399 points short.

      • +2

Yes, because Telstra are the only mobile provider who's offering this service (I think a world first?)

    • got a link for the 2500 bonus points?

    • 10,000 bonus points on signup

      still available or not ?

  • +2

Damn! Just got the older version yesterday from Telstra!!

By the way, it's well worth having two now that Google have introduced the stereo pairing Works really well and finally makes the mini sound good for music.

    • +1

Me too. I haven’t opened it yet. I wonder if I could return it for an exchange to this deal?

    • Agreed. It actually works quite well. Sounds better than expected.

Only thing I can't work out is how to change it so the "Ok Google" can be done on the right speaker. It seems to always default to the left speaker which happens to be further away from where I usually am, making voice calls harder for the other person to hear me/me to hear them.

  • +1

Need 1500 in bills to get 15000 , still long way to go :(

  • +2

im getting one of these free from Woolworths rewards.

just spend $50 a week in one transaction. for 4 weeks.
and they will send me one.
    just did the second week

    • +1

      Link the offer please

      • -1

They email them and it'll be clearly too late

      • yeah u have to be on rewards. and check your email often. u might have got an email. but if u did its to late

    • Thanks for the reminder. I changed mine back from 6,000 points to the Google Nest Mini. Hopefully I qualify, this being the last of the 4 weeks.

  • Thanks Op

  • Just wondering is it 2 separate packaging or some sort of twin pack. Thinking of giving one to someone else.

    • Usually it's two separate ones just shrink-wrapped together, but it could be a twin pack like the ones at JB Hi-Fi where you get a Chromecast and a Google Home Mini for example

    • It is two separate packs. Nothing joins them.

  • what is Google Nest Mini? Google Home Mini version 2?

  • Thanks. I’m glad I missed out on the redemption before. Much better dea. Now what do I need two more speakers for??

    • +1

Sell them on Gumtree/eBay? The RRP of one is $79

  • is this useful? I got home mini from the free tictac deal I found it is useless. Any good way to use this?

    • +1

Ask it questions, set reminders and alarms, use it as a white noise machine … I use mine to turn my lights on before I get home via my Google Assistant

      • also play music
wake up alarm to radio or music
        tell a story
turn on/off any devices that have a smart power plug attached

        also not mention features
-eaves dropping device for google and possibly NSA

  • If you are like me and don't have a licence or a current passport to place your order just put another form of ID number in and try to see if it goes through. I was on online chat for ages trying to get it sorted and eventually was just told to do just that. I used my Pension Card number - without the letter at the end (via the Licence drop down box).

    • strange why they would need a licence

      why you got no licence?
do you travel only via public transport and walking etc?

      • +1

It's because it's sold like a normaal mobile phone. I had to show my licence when I got my Google Nest Mini delivered. Or rather, I gave my licence to my colleagues in case it got delivered during my break, which of course it did …

      • I just don't have one - got my L's way back and was no good at driving LOL so never bothered. I have gotten around with public transport and shanks' pony quite well all my life ;) And yes they always ask for licence/passport (only choices) when ordering stuff - the same when I bought my new Telstra TV online recently. It's really annoying that they only give those 2 options for ID. I understand when it's for a phone/internet but for regular stuff it's a pain. They always say to provide the same ID for delivery and I never get asked for ID when they deliver anyway. EDIT and I ordered late evening 31 October and it's being delivered today - I am in Capricorn Coast QLD.

        • Aaaand first time ever I was asked for ID on delivery which he actually checked against what I used to order :P Which is good because too many thieves around here lately.

  • OMG, 320 points short.
Will have them next month, but i dont it will be available…

    • Deal doesn't expire until 14 Jan 2020 - you have plenty of time :)

  • +2

    Mine just arrived!

    • when did you ordered
      and how long it takes?

      • I ordered a single one, but if it helps, I ordered on Wednesday, shipped Thursday and received yesterday (Friday). I live in Sydney though and it came from western Sydney …

        • did you use the 10000 points to get the 1 nest mini or 1 google home mini?

it is a shame you missed 15000 bundle deal.

          • +1

@pinkybrain: Yep. Don't have enough points for the bundle anyway; I have about 3800 points after redeeming the GNM and I only spend $64/month

            • @kerfuffle: so you had 13800 points?

did you know about the 15000 bundle before trading in your 10000 points?
and you just ordered on 30/10/2019?

it would not have taken long to reach 15000 points anyway
and deal is going till 14 jan 2020

so you would only need 1200 points
              and $64 x 2 months = $128 = 1280 points

              • +1

@pinkybrain: I already have two GHM at home and didn't really need a GNM; I only got it because I had all these idle points.

                • @kerfuffle: same here, I also got 3 GHM
but I also got lots of points from the telstra 10000 promotion

I was also going to trade in my 10000, points for the GHM (since most of their other stuff is way too many points or need to pay extra dollars that is more expensive than normal prices on ozbargain/ebay deals)

but then I saw that that they had increased GHM to 14000 points

then I saw the GNM for 10000,
and lucky I saw the bundle deal on ozbargain..

I only need to make one more payment to reach 15000 points
so the bundle is definitely better value

and the new speaker sound quality is much better than the GHM
and also it has a wall mount built in, which should increase the sound quality even more when you wall mount it
since the wall would increase the sound resonance.

BTW you know that the google home/nest minis can now be linked as a stereo speaker pair?

                  • @pinkybrain:

BTW you know that the google home/nest minis can now be linked as a stereo speaker pair?

I did know that. But I also have a stereo so don't really need to pair them. Plus I don't want to wall mount mine as I can't reach it when I'm lying in bed to adjust the volume for the white noise

                    • +1

@kerfuffle: yeah but the stereo is really good for when I listen my google music or radio stations
So this is a welcome addition

it would have been good if they put in the audio out like the amazon smart speakers
which then means you can output a to better AV receiver or speakers etc..
I thought they would have done that in the newer GNM, but it turns out they didn't..

Why you need to adjust the volume by touching the mini?
just issue the voice command to change the volume or change it with the home app.

I find it is hard to know where the touch for volume is
and also it would take longer to adjust to the volume to how much I want
vs just doing a voice command to change volume to X percent.

how do you stream your online music to your stereo?
BTW which model stereo do you own?

Also how long do you leave the white noise playing
when you are in bed and sleeping?

  • Why you need to adjust the volume by touching the mini?
just issue the voice command to change the volume or change it with the home app.

So I can change it in the middle of the night without anyone waking me up and it's easier than opening the app (my phone isn't always near me)

I don't use online music for streaming to my audio as I don't listen to it much at home (usually when I'm driving/taking public transport). I have a Sony one.

As for the white noise one, usually ends up running all night; end up turning it off when I wake up

  • Just got the shipping notification… I totally forgot about this until I got it.

    • +1

Arrived today and wow they're substantially better sounding than the OG Home Mini.

  • I find it most amusing you could get 2x Google Nest Minis for 15,000 points, or for 14,000 the Apple Lightning EarPods - $45 RRP…

    • Got mine today, took a couple of days after ordering. I knew they would be the one (Chalk) colour, which is the only minor disappointment. I'm not too keen on Google, prefer Amazon Alexa, but for the price I'm willing to give it a go.

  • Received mine today from Telstra. I had forgotten about the Telstra points so ordered Google Nest Mini. There were 2 in the box and they are 2nd generation. And only cost 10,000 points.

  • Hi, I placed my order on 23 Nov, and received an email instantly saying it will take 1-2 business days for delivery. Since it didn't arrive I contacted Telstra support 24/7 yesterday (2 Dec) and was told to go and collect it from a store, the guy also checked stock availability at a particular store. So I went to the store and they gave me a box which only contained one mini. I said the item I redeemed is a bundle which has two minis and showed the item listed in the Telstra rewards store. Then they said it is just the photo that show two minis, but nothing in the description says there are two. Anyways, I said how come the single mini is available at 10,000 points and why would I pay 15,000 to get the same. After nearly 1 hour, they conceded that the bundle is not available in store. So I went back to Telstra 24/7 today and explained the situation and they are going to talk to the back-end team to sort this out and was told it can take another 10-14 business days. Not sure how such a simple interaction got this complicated. Sigh

    • +1

Must’ve run out of stock. Make sure you don’t end up with the (1st Gen) Google Home Mini either!

  • +1

Placed order early December, called today to check on status and was told the order wasn’t on their system (despite showing 15k points deducted).
They will credit back my points and have suggested that I reorder. Luckily I have enough points to do so before I see the original points returned. Those of you still waiting on your delivery should call/chat to check on status!

  • Got six of these babies on the way. Thanks OP.

    • Me too. Ordered mine on monday. Can you let me know when you ordered yours and when you receive it? Cheers.

      • Ordered mine yesterday. Will update you

        • Got a tracking number on Tuesday and received mine yesterday.

  • Probably need to mark this expired. Out of stock.
