[Answered - Cannot be fixed] Kogan Mobile / Vodafone : Problem - Cannot Receive Large Pictures via MMS / Messaging

UPDATE

Kogan staff have confirmed, files of 300Kb size cannot be sent via messaging and cannot be received via messaging!!!!

So friends can no longer just message you their photos.

A workaround is suggested to use apps such as Whatsapp or Facebook, but this makes the Vodafone/Kogan solution a 3rd rate solution. :S

(eg sharing photos with trades people about jobs … and then having to try and get them to use Whatsapp when they don't carry a smartphone while at work)

It'd probably take The Age, The Herald Sun or some other reporter to get this fixed.

A friend has found, since I changed back to Kogan Mobile, (around start of October 2019), she cannot send me standard sized photos (in MMS).
She can send them to other people.
She used to be able to send them to me (with Catch Connect and previously with Kogan Mobile).

Now she can only send reduced sized photos to me (eg screenshots of photos)

Is anyone else experiencing this and have any clues what I need to ask Kogan staff, to get this fixed?

  • I can only imagine that you are referring to MMS.

    • It's MMS.

It's not WhatsApp or photo sharing apps.

Sounds like a problem with the settings on your device. Make sure mobile data is enabled.

I am with Kogan Mobile and dont have any issues in this space.

AFAIK the file size limit for MMS on a vodafone network is 300K, if the image is larger than that, they'll compress the image.

It could be that something recently changed and they're just not compressing but failing to send you the file entirely.

Here are the MMS settings for Kogan. just check to see if your configuration matches https://help.koganmobile.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/206229188-…

      Thanks Scrimshaw.

My MMS settings seemed to be okay.

      I rang the help desk.
The guy I spoke to said, if a file size is greater than 300k, I cannot message it and I cannot receive it via message!!!
He said, use WhatsApp or other apps to send this image and get the other person to do the same … ?????

So Vodafone hobbled the network, really badly. People can't just share photos with you via MMS. (Most cameras will take photos larger than 300k)

They've either got to fix this or they are going to lose a lot of customers. :S

So no more nudes? That sucks for you.

Try Textra. It automatically compresses pictures and videos to fit within your carrier's limit. At least, you'll be able to send your photos.

Nice one. But nobody want little pictures of little… never mind.
