Surfshark or Scamshark? You be the judge

Hello fellow Ozbargainers.

I am sure many of you have jumped on Surfshark with the recent cashback deals and so have I.

I wanted it for the pure reason I could stream US Netflix on my TV Box.

Initially, I was able to find success in the Denver servers but since I haven't been able to stream on any.

Is there something I am missing? On their website it says "Unblock Netflix US with Surfshark Access all streaming services from school, university,
or your workplace."

The sentence above is the entire reason I signed up. Can this be fixed or do I need to seek a refund?

Thanks guys

  • I don't know why you think they'd lie on their website. Brianne is happy.

Netflix are very aggressive with tracking down & cutting off VPN servers.

You could try raising the issue with Surfshark. Otherwise, the only option is trying another VPN provider.

  • US servers have been working fine for me with netflix

    • Which ones in particular? I'll give them another shot!

      • using New York atm but they all seem to work for me

  • Some VPNs work fine with Netflix in a web browser but not using the Netflix app.

  • Netflix uses various methods to detect if you are using a proxy. For me Surfshark works very well. I use the following steps:

    1) Clear Netflix app cache
    2) Set the device time to USA East Coast time
    3) Use Surfshark to "mock GPS". The newer version of Surfshark has this option
    4) Uninstall all updates of Netflix and just use the stock version which came with the device
    5) In Surfshark, use the New York static IP

    Netflix works well, everytime!

  • So I'm not sure if you have read their FAQ but: "Connect to any servers in countries other than the United Kingdom, Japan, India, Italy, Canada, Germany, Korea, The Netherlands, Turkey, France, Australia, Brazil or Singapore to dive into Netflix US content."
I connect to our friendly neighbor country (NZ), have never had any problem with Netflix US

    • Wait so no matter what country you connect to, you can only access the US library?

      • Other than the countries in the above list, yes. The US library is most extensive anyways.

Australia Netflix blocks certain content because other providers like Stan has already gained contracts for them (e.g. Breaking Bad). You just need to find a country that isn't as competitive. Also doesn't mean US Netflix has the complete catalogue. For example, 'Brooklyn 99' is available on Australia Netflix but unavailable on US Netflix.
