PSA: Cashback Credits Expire after 1 year of inactivity (ShopBack/Cashrewards)

So just logged into my ShopBack account and noticed $15 credit expired. Had no idea. Checked and Cash Rewards was similar.

Pays to read the T+Cs and read your emails…Rookie error! Don't do what Donny Don't Does!

Will my Cashback expire?
The Cashback accumulated in your ShopBack account will expire if your account remains inactive (i.e. no successful transactions are made through ShopBack) for a period of more than a year.

https://www.cashrewards.com.au/terms-and-conditions

19.3.1 We reserve the right to cancel your membership and your Account, and terminate your use of the Service, with 7 days' notice, if your membership Account becomes Inactive. Your Account becomes “Inactive” if you do not log in to the Website and click through to a merchant's website at least once in any 12-month period. To prevent your membership account from becoming Inactive, it is sufficient for you to simply log in to the Website and click through to a merchant's website a minimum of once in any 12-month period.

19.3.2 All rewards (whether pending or confirmed or accrued or not) held in an Inactive Account will expire at midnight (Sydney, Australia, time) on the date that the Account becomes Inactive (the “expiry date”). Subject to clause 19.3.1, expiry of rewards will not itself result in closure of a member's Account but the applicable rewards will be immediately and irreversibly cancelled and will not be available to the member. We will use reasonable endeavours to provide you with prior written notification of the date on which your rewards will expire (if your Account becomes Inactive).

Edit: Just noticed ShopBack is actually a bit stricter than CashRewards, because you have to make a purchase, not just click through!

Thanks I had some shopback about to expire on 11/11. +1 for OP!

Thanks, just cashed out my cashrewards, don't really use it anymore, so should cash out while I can.

Am I the only one that cashes out CR and SB the moment I reach the cashout threshold?

    • I would if I knew I was over, rookie error.

    • Yep, you never know when one of them is going to go broke, and when that happens, your 'money' is just ones and zeroes in a database. Better in my offset account than earning interest for them…

Thanks OP. Sadly can't give you an upvote.

    Thank you John Kimble.

I had close to $90 on each CR and SB and cashed out just in case.

    • Woah, that's a lot in my books. I wonder how much credit has been "expired" over the years all up…they must love it…like gift card expiry dates all over again…

I DARE NOT LOOK at my history.

I may use some of it for a razor blade.

  • Signed up to cashback expecting they can simply bail-out at any moment with all the rewards.
Have been cashing out rewards after every ‘large’ amount ($X - $XX) is approved.

  • Wow I wish i'd seen this post sooner… have expired cashback on multiple accounts via both sites. Anyone have any luck trying to ask for it back? Would be good to know before I waste my time contacting customer support…

  • topcashback apparently 6mths only?
