PSP GO! $100 at Harvey Norman, Moore Park - Supacenta, Sydney

400

Went to Harvey Norman to ask for a deal I saw earlier regarding a PSP-3000 model bundle going for $129 I saw on OzBargain.
That particular store didn't have any bundles, but only the console, they would match the price, but for the console only, without the game etc.

I wasn't happy with that, so I asked them about their PSP GO, after some haggling and negotiation, and literally pulling out my wallet and showing the assistant that I was able to pay in 'cash', he managed to drop it down to $100 even.

Not exactly a 'deal' that any Harvey Norman is officially having, although, they are wanting to get rid of all their current PSP stock since hype has severely died down with the announcement of the PS Vita.

Good luck, and try to get served by someone nice.

An $100 Android phone would be better for GPS and web browsing.

Good luck to anyone trying to get Harvey Norman to price match their own deals.

    • ESP when their franchises compete for your business.

All stores make profit on everything sold, even during stocktake/eofy/boxing day/other sales periods.
In this case the guy told me, he 'could' do it for $159, and that was below cost-price already.
      (I didn't believe him)
Coming from a retail background myself, using the old "I'm losing money" is the line I used to use when I didn't want customers taking more commission from me.
Smaller stores that don't do so well are more inclined to give you the price you ask, because they struggle for budget, end of the day it's cash in the till for them. Massive super stores, won't really care as much, because they know they can sell to the next person who walks through the door.
I used to work sales once in JB HIFI, so I have a rough idea of profit margins with products, which is a big plus, I guess.

Treat the sales assistant like your best mate, but also don't forget that he's taking your money. :)

"Below cost price" at $159. So how did he feel at $100? Like a real bs artist?
"Like your best mate"… So you offered him a date with your sister in return for a favour? ;-)

You must have very high XP in bartering. My character is still better at h2h combat; might not work too well against a sales clerk though :p

    • Should be ok? :-) :-)

    • +3

If you have higher level combat than him, go take the PSP off him then

Should've spent all those skill points on Thievery.

    • hes a goblin… he gets discounts from vendors

I doubt my local HN will honour this.
+1 for having amazing haggling skills.

The PSPGo 10 free games offer from Sony is still available until the end of August.

    http://au.playstation.com/psp/support/playstation-network/de…

    • I honoured that as soon as I logged in to PSN, so, yeah, it's still going :)

  • well done, but it's not useful to many of us

    • Doesn't hurt to try mate,
don't forget, PSP is dated now, and very overpriced.
It's what bargains are made of :)

Tried at HN Blacktown this afternoon. No go.

shouldnt a deal be something that is available to all at all or most of the stores? it seems that this sale was due to the OP haggling the price down, it does not mean that all HN stores will do this therefore i wouldnt think this counts as a deal. ?

    • +2

but at least you now know this is the chance you can also bargain hard, and harder.

this is more like one of those xbox moments…
"ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: These are the $100 PSPs you're looking for"

I bet episys felt like obi-wan after that day :D

  • Dont forget people EB games price matches anything from HN or JB hifi. Ive tired it before just telling them a got it for this price from HN would u bet it? they said yes on the spot without any proof… lol

    • +1

Our EB rings them up, unless you have some proof. I've taken a photo of the price at bigW before and that worked.

    • EB don't price match hardware anymore.

  • you can add + 10 psn games in the title, a more sweeter deal ;)

i would get one , but throwing away all my UMD games is just stupid. damn sony.

Just checked with Stores around CBD of Melbourne. Harvey Norman, Dicksmith, EBgames and JBhifi. Harvey, Dick and JB has no stock of PSPgo, just a few PSP-3000 models. JBhifi won't price match the 100 dollar deal. EBGAMES has said that no EBGAMES had stocked PSPGo since the beginning since the model does not support UMD's so it was quite useless for them to sell.

Anyone find a place in with PSPgo in stock in Melbourne?

  • I guess the OP won the lotto with this purchase or he has insanely formidable bartering and negotiation skills. I would like to go to the same shop and watch myself get humiliated and embarrassed, probably laughed out of the store by the clerks, just for asking.

  • Just went to Moore Park Harvey Norman, spoke with the sales person that put this through and was told that he remembers selling this, it was the last one, display model. That's why it was so cheap.

Kinda annoyed that this wasn't stated in the post…

    • It's brand new, they had no display models of them, he went into the back and got me a sealed box.
If it was a display model (which I wouldn't get anyway, constantly being beaten around by 13 year olds during school holidays) I would've got him down to 50.

  • I managed to get the last one at HN Ballarat for $100 after showing them the receipt on my $99 optus mytab:) they phoned the store that was on the top of the receipt then said ok. Thanks to the op!

How long does it normally take to be emailed the redemption code for the 10 games?

    • When you claim it, they say, 1 week to receive an email with the codes which you redeem on PSN (either on the PSP itself or on a PS3).
If the email doesn't arrive, I'll call Sony directly.

      • I bought a PSP Go in late June (though was $150 when I got it) and it took basically the 30 days they stated on their website for the redemption code to come through, only got it a few days ago - better late than never thouugh!

  • Now I just feel bad. I'm selling a PSP Go on Ebay and the bidding's currently at $150 with 9 hours to go.

  • no PSPs left at all at HN Auburn or Blacktown - sale reps said they went on sale and all got cleared out! only handhelds left were the nintendo DS variants.
