How to Deal with a Scammer on eBay

Hi guys,

So I have purchased a $1600 item on eBay and often buy items from eBay however, I get the feeling that this seller may be scamming me, and I get the feeling that I won't be receiving the item I paid for.
I paid via PayPal, so if I never receive the item, I should be able to get a refund under buyer protection (I am hoping.)
The seller has 60+ feedback but none selling.
The seller had good communication answering questions PRIOR to buying/paying for the item and has not responded to any emails (3) since I have paid for the item. The seller had 3 items for sale, they have all since been removed.
I am wondering what others have done in this situation? Is there anyway to track the IP address of the seller, ad or emails? If so, how?
Or does everyone just wait the period of time to start the resolution process with Ebay and PayPal?

Any thoughts?

Just wait for the specific item order details (E.g., if they said it'll be posted by the 10th of Nov, you'll have to wait until then).

If you get the item, great. If you don't, lodge paypal/eBay case and it'll be fine.

    Just annoying but that's eBay

    • This, what else do you want? You took the risk with a dodgyish seller, you either get your item, or you get your money back.

Are you hoping to track them down and break their legs or something?

“Track their IP”? What do you think this is, CSI? Are You going to blindly tap at your keyboard while your screen goes green and black?

Why you are buying from this seller at the first place if you worried?

Was the price too good to be true?

    If I were you I’d:

    1. Wait for delivery
    2. Wait an extra 2 days past delivery date because postal services aren’t perfect
    3. Still no arrival, contact seller
    4. Ask for update, tracking info, etc
    5. Not happy with buyer response/lack there of then:
    6. Ask ebay to resolve

I think your panicking a bit because it’s a lot of money, but your pretty well covered as a buyer with both ebay & PayPal IMO.

Just take a breath, it’ll most likely be fine. If it’s not your well protected as a buyer. As the above posters noted your acting a little silly mate.

Settle guys, I was simply asking what others have done in similar situations.
The reason for asking if there was anyway to track an IP address was to see if the IP location matched with the location they have stated on eBay (as per eBay listing.)
I will wait the time period and see what happens, but no communication isnt a good sign (how I see it anyway.)

You bought a $1600 item from a first time seller. Not sure too many here have done that.
If $1600 is a great price then maybe a few here might have….

You have rolled the dice…. just hope you don’t get mailed a box with weight of your item but contains nothing of value.

      • Balanced out your neg vote. Someone didn’t like you talking sense.

dscott85 has the correct idea further up: wait for the delivery timeframe to arrive, allow a reasonable margin of error, contact seller, lodge case with eBay/PayPal.

PayPal is notoriously Pro-buyer, so very little to worry about now.
