I'm in the same boat as you, gonna wait till Black Friday and see what happens. Pretty sure Amazon had an awesome Mavic Air deal last year so here's to hoping… And if there isn't, ebay will probably run discounts between now and Christmas.
Looking at the price jacking on the deal the other day I think I'll go with this. Flying overseas end of the month so can't wait for black friday.

I can still get the care refresh and activate it on this purchase yeah? like i just wait till i receive the drone, activate it, then purchase care refresh using my serial number. Or do i have to buy it directly from DJI's website?

Is the "follow me" function any good?
I've been thinking about using it to follow me on my road bike, but I'm worried about obstacles e.g. might have to fly it 30-50m above me in order to keep clear of trees, powerlines, overpasses, etc…
I've also read it won't follow downwards (e.g. it will maintain its current altitude rather than follow you downhill)
Is there a way to set the altitude in the "follow me" function?
Are there any other issues I should consider?
i dont believe this model has "follow me".
Not currently a feature with Mavic mini but talk it may be a future software update
Can Mavic Mini track objects automatically? No
Does Mavic Mini support obstacle aviodance? No. Use Mavic Mini with the 360° Propeller Guard to fully protect the propellers and improve flight safety.
its definitely a shame. Would be an instabuy with follow me and at least front obstacle avoidance.

It's weird because I watched a few reviews on YouTube showing it as a function… I probably accidentally watched a review of a Mavic Pro or something oops - they all look the same!
They have some other modes (rocket etc.) Where it identifies a target and does a manoeuvre before returning to starting position. You might have mistaken that for follow me
Like everyone mentioned, Mini doesn't have the follow me feature. May I suggest getting the Spark if you want the follow me gig, as the Spark has come down in price. I had a Spark and the follow me feature was awesome!
Please note that these are locked to CE mode in Australia and will not have the stated 4km range. Unlike the Spark which can easily be forced into FCC mode via software.
Also, no object tracking (ie follow me mode) or object avoidance sensors.Those comments are interesting but I wouldn't hold your breath. There are legal implications with FCC and maximum output power in Australia so we'll see.
Depends what band its operating on. Our regs here are neither Europe nor North America - closer to China.

A noob question, how do you know if your drone is FCC or CE when you got it? Would it prints on the box?

Don't forget to get the DJI care refresh in the first 48 hours of activation. For $60 you can have the drone replaced twice in the first year. $65 first replacement and $75 for second Nice to have just in case.
