Also I’ve found strangely some cafes charge you for Amex or don’t accept it at all. If they do that I just say I’ll pay via skip and put the order through that way - surcharge free.
It’s because Amex charges a substantially higher fee than VISA/Master and most small businesses pass that to us customers. Skip on the other hands will absorb that since they most likely take a bigger cut back from the business anyways. Also they probably have bigger negotiating power to Amex than small businesses to get a lower surcharge.
@rookie317: I get that, but the reason I find it strange is because it would most likely be cheaper for the business to absorb the Amex fee then it would be to pay the Skip fees (which as you point out they are probably a bigger cut).
@financialminimalism: Yeah but think of Skip as an additional channel (with Amex comes included) of sale though. Since customers who have come to the business in person will pay regardless of payment methods, as a business owner you will want to maximize this channel since it's the primary source for most small businesses anyways. Skip is just one channel along with Uber, Menulog, Ritual etc. for more exposure really
Also I just had this strange experience yesterday at Chambers Coffee Burwood: there's a free upsize after 3pm but apparently Skip orders are not qualified, so there's that also.

It says that on the check out screen but the calculation is correct at 40%. Just a UI bug it looks like.
Beat me to it. Very good deal for lunches this week. Sometimes I buy lunch from the same cafe I get coffee from in the morning. Trick is just to pre-buy all your purchases in one go for the day and save 40% off the lot.
