    Too sweet for my liking.

    •

Can't agree more. They are too sweet.

There are several flavours, so are you saying they are ALL too sweet? If so, then ice cream isn't your kind of dessert.

        Flavour Sugar (%)
        Peanut Butter Crunch 15.3
        Strawberries and Cream 21.7
        Cookie Dough Chip 21.7
        Salted Caramel 23.5
        Brownie Macchiato 25.8
        Chocolate Frappe 28.1

Halo is good, with high protein in some variety.

          •

@Jugg.Judy: Good when on special :-) Unfortunately, most(?) of their flavours are sweetened with erythritol which can cause upset tummies for people like jv. Have you tried the Denada brand? That's sweetened with xylitol and I think they taste pretty good.

Is strawberries and cream or cookie dough cheap also part of the promo? I'd give those 2 a try lol

@profeeder55: Dunno :-( We're at the mercy of individual stores. From what I've seen, the most stocked flavours are salted caramel, then peanut butter crunch, then cookie dough chip.

Really not that impressive. Peanut butter crunch was just ok, but not worth it even at half price for such a tiny amount.

Salted caramel easily my favourite ice cream available in a tub. Thanks Op.

    •

Love the salted caramel. Haven’t tried any others but not being the adventurous type I’ll probably stick to a good thing.

Their strawberry and peanut butter leaves other flavours in the gutter. Their chocolate frappe is crappe.

Ice cream is sold by volume, not weight.

I mean if you compare it with going out for single scoop of ice cream for $5.80 or whatever it is some places charge…. It's pretty good value haha

Now days there seems to be half a dozen or more companies selling a dozen plus different varieties of ice cream in these smaller volume 1L tubs at around $10 -$14 a tub. This is certainly not the only brand in that price point.

I won’t pay RRP for this as I like enough flavours from other companies such that I’ll usually find something on sale that I like (or wear another cheaper brands RRP). That said at half price or even 30-40% off I do think what I’ve tasted of the brand (salted caramel) makes it worth a purchase and the reduced sale price premium.

Expensive even at half price but God damn it's tasty

This vs connoisseur, which is good?

    • +7 votes

Connoisseur is good, but full of thickeners and artificial stabilisers and stuff. Check the ingredients label.

Hagen daz is just real ice cream custard plus flavouring. Half the amount of ingredients.

How is Sara Lee on this front .

I try to keep the Chocolate out of the house it very addictive :)

        •

You can compare the ingredients on their web sites, sounds crazy right?.
          Sara Lee
          Connoisseur

          For example, take vanilla.

Sara Lee: cream, sugar, skim milk, water, egg yolk, emulsifiers (477, 471), vegetable gums (412, 407a), natural vanilla flavour
Connoisseur: cream, skim milk, water, sugar, glucose syrup, dextrose, flavours, emulsifiers (471), vegetable gum (410), colour (160b)

        • +2 votes

          Sara Lee Strawberries & Cream:

Cream (22%), skim milk concentrate, strawberry sauce [strawberries, sugar, water, thickener (1442), natural flavours, mineral salt (509), natural colour (carmine), acidity regulators (331, citric acid)], sugar, water, butter, **emulsifier (vegetable – 471), vegetable gums (410, 412, 407), natural colour (carmine)

And this is Häagen-dazs Strawberries & Cream:

Fresh Cream, Condensed Skimmed Milk, Strawberries (21%), Sugar, Egg Yolk

People bitch about Häagen-dazs being expensive but you really do get what you pay for. The natural red color in Sara Lee ice cream is basically insect and that makes it "natural".

  •

TA, are you saying strawberrys and cream will not be on 1/2 price? :(

  •

Love the salted caramel can't wait to buy a few thanks OP

The strawberry one is pretty good

+1 for Mango/Raspberry. So hard to find mango ice cream in the wild!

  •

    They are nice

  •

The classic simple smooth Vanilla is never available in-store in Australia. Only all these overly sweet flavours with so much crap added.

  •

Anyone tried the Brownie Macchiat or Chocolate Frappe and can review?

  •

Where do you get early access to the Coles Catalogue?

If anything were a singles day special, shouldn't it be this?

  •

my favorite flavor :P . im ready!

  •

personally i think the salted caramel in the woolworths 1ltr tub is nicer, also salted caramel woolworths brand is $5 for ltr and the salted caramel in this is $5.75 for 457ml

and i am a sucker for anything american

but the wife loves the coffee flavour of this so i guess if they have it we'll be getting some

  •

I mean… it's cheaper than ben & jerrys… I took a look the other day and I reckon Ben & Jerrys (at full price) is probably just as expensive as getting it from the actual ice cream store
