  • Wow! This seems like a great deal to me. I can't say I have any experience with this particular model, but I've had a Denon AVR1802 AV receiver for about 8 years and I still love it. Wonderful quality, clean audio. When it finally kicks the bucket I'll be getting another Denon. Seems almost a shame to not get this… I… must… resist… :)

    • It can be hard to resist at times, hold strong lol :)

  • A lot of decent TV's now have multiple HDMI inputs and will handle the HDMI switching side of things and then have a digital coaxial and/or optical audio out that can be fed to an older surround amp that doesn't support HDMI switching. Might save someone a few bucks…

    • Yes that would work for some TV's, but many will not pass a 5.1 audio signal from a device plugged in via HDMI, they will only send 5.1 from the TV tuner.

It's always best to plug any device direct to the AVR, either via HDMI or digital coax/optical.

      • My Dad's Sony does it fine, and my Panasonic does it fine. Both are set up for HDMI audio in and optical out to the amp. Might save someone hundreds of dollars to get much the same sound, so it's worth a try.

        • I've only done a few of the Sony TV's, but have done many Panasonics and none of them would accept 5.1 via the HDMI input, they would only accept 2 channel audio via HDMI.

You don't have the amp on pro-logic which expands 2 channel sources to 5.1?

Also optical can not transmit the hi-res audio from Blu-ray.
