Correct me if I'm wrong but the Gen 4's no longer have the wave keyboard (i.e. buttons that drop into chassis).

thanks for this info, I wasn't aware. That's a bit lame - it's a great feature on previous gens, where the keys didn't come into contact with the table surface in display/Stand/Presentation mode. And in Tablet mode, your fingers aren't constantly clicking keys

    • You mean the keyboard? I have exactly one of these, from Gray's eBay (refurbed). The keys retract when you fold the screen back, then it's flat. It's pretty cool.

The laptop is awesome. Fast, screen is super high res, bright. Only thing is the thick bezels around the screen. These days you can expect much thinner. The X1 Carbon which is the same as this but sans tablet mode, has thinner bezels.

      Linux support is good too.

your one will NOT be a 4th Gen if it has retractable key board. You most likely has a Gen 3 or Gen 2 of the X1 Yoga.

        • Thanks, you're right, it is a Gen3. Specs are the same as those above though.

I just created an account to share my experience with this laptop.

I just got one 6 days ago and the touch screen stopped working. After multiple driver reinstallations and clean installing windows, which resulted in a bricked laptop, Lenovo advised me to seek a replacement.

It's being picked up tomorrow and sent back to the retailer.

You probably received a lemon, this is possible with any manufacturer.

    • How does reinstalling windows "brick" a laptop?

      • After the clean installation of Windows, the BIOS wouldn't boot into the newly installed OS, and also would not let me boot into the USB drive to do another clean install, and also wouldn't allow me to install Windows over the internet (with ethernet plugged in).

So technically not bricked, but there was something very wrong at that stage.

FYI - The WQHD/2K screen is probably the worst option for this model, it is way too dim (at 270 nits). Both the FHD and UHD screen options are rated at 400 nits of brightness.
