thanks for link dins, i'm always looking out for cheaper supplies for my dogs (they cost a bloody fortune). whilst your website link does have pretty good pricing for the big dog food bags (i buy Eukanuba for my dogs), the smaller items like Drontal and Advocate arent that cheap.

your link has Eukanuba delivered for a little cheaper than what I can get it locally (which is good, $5 is $5), but if you want cheap meds for dogs get onto Ebay and look for powerseller called "budgetpetproducts". very reliable, huge feedback scores, and CHEAP! i can get Advocate for about $40 under local retail, and Drontal for $10 under retail… delivered.

and if this petstock store is opening up near a petbarn, go into petbarn and check sales pricing on some of the expensive items (like the bigger bags of dog food). petstock opened in fyshwick (canberra) not too long ago, and sure enough petbarn in same suburb now has really competitive pricing to try and push them out.

      • No worries yeah I also buy meds and toys from ebay. I just buy Advance from Pookinuk when they have the 20% extra offer going (ie 18kg for the price of 15kg). I usually stock up then and take advantage of the $5 fixed delivery fee. I used to buy Artemis until I read that some dog food from overseas are irradiated so I decided to stick with good ol oz Advance. I highly recommend it.

        • my only hessitation on Advance is that the ingredient list has first ingredient as "chicken and chicken meal", then the next ingredient. If you take a look at other premium brands, the first ingredient should be "chicken", then "chicken meal"… that distinction is important in trying to determine exactly what quality the main ingredient is. "chicken and chicken meal" is different to "chicken". Not saying anything wrong with Advance though. Just their wording is in my opinion a little 'shifty' :). "Chicken as a main source of high quality protein"… but not THE main source or ingredient, whereas Eukanuba clearly states that "chicken" is the main ingredient. fish oil is also important for doggies, which isnt in Advance. (im comparing Advance Chicken to Euka Maintenance… the "Active" varieties are different again). but no question that Advance is a premium food for dogs. kicks the crap out of Pedigree and Purina and the like.

btw UFO which of the Eukenuba packs do you buy? I ask that because from what I have heard and read Eukanuba uses a lot of fillers (corn, grains etc). You can simply click on the ingredients tab on Pookinuk and see what the ingredients are and their order of composition (descending) to compare products. I think Advance is in the same price range as Eukanuba but their ingredients list is quite decent (meat and rice first 2 ingredients). Please don't take it the wrong way I am not trying to be rude or any thing but just thought I should mention it.

        • omg… dont get me started!!! The crap food, the crap advice given to owners, it's criminal!

I feed my dogs Eukanuba Medium Breed Premium Maintenance Mix….. 1st ingredient is real chicken meat, then chicken meal. Product contains absolutely no fillers, artificial preservatives, flavours, or colours. Minimum 25% protein content. In my opinion not very many dog foods can match up to it… and I've looked!

I know EXACTLY what you are saying regarding foods available. I use this in conjunction with raw food and appropriate leftovers. It's not cheap, but the ingredient list in commercial dog food is very impotant to me. My old vet tried to push Hills Science Diet on me (it's the only brand he sold), but looking at ingredients it was ALL fillers and he's trying to tell me that dogs are 'omnivores' and that rice and carrots is what they need the most. Rubbish. Yes they eat nearly everything we eat, but meat HAS TO be 1st ingredient! Current vet is much more honest, fresh food is best… meat on the bone, appropriate leftovers that we consume, THEN otherwise quality dry food like Eukanuba is next best. I did a lot of research regarding foods available and even how dogs have evolved with humans over the centuries, and what they are DESIGNED to eat and why.

Its so sad how bad the quality of dog food is at supermarkets and the like. MOST commercial dog food is terrible for dogs :(. Pedigree, Purina, and the like…. all crap. You go to RSPCA and they peddle Hill's Science Diet above all else. Why, because they get it at rediculously cheap prices on the condition that its the only product they use, sell, and recommend :(. "Research" funded by dog food companies far surpases that done by independant researchers…. gee I wonder what the results are going to say :(.

There's so much misinformation out there it's scary. It's like 'annual vaccinations'… some vets are STILL advising owners to do them! But I guess too many people making too much money lying to owners about what dogs really need. Excessive vaccinations is where vets make their money!

Sorry for rant, but this is a very sensitive issue for me. Big business taking advantage of owners who are just trying to do the best for their dogs, who are unwittingly causing their pets health problems and premature death :(.

Long story short, just raw meat no good. Just kibble no good. Just vegetables no good. Got to have a mix…. but that mix must be predominately MEAT. Every now and again a cracked egg over the kibble always goes down well too :). But no way I'd feed my dogs canned food and most commercial kibbles. No way.
