The Valve Index is a much better option at that price.

    • Import costs?

    • +4

Yeah I would just wait until Valve lets Australia get the Index instead of buying this.

    • +3

I got no idea so here’s a comparison for anyone wondering:
Valve Index vs. HTC Vive Pro: Which is better for you?

    • +2

and u get free half-life game

    • +1

Any idea when we can buy the valve index in Australia?

      • +3

i believe they will be shipping it with Half Life 3 in our region.

  • +3

McLaren version should have had some racing swag bundled with it. Gets a plus from me for the price though, only if you were waiting on a price drop on this one though.

  • Hmm this or Quest

    • Quest and money for more games / upgrades

    • Quest doesn’t require the computer but it is less powerful. Quest gets a bit jerky which will possibly cause vr sickness feeling, also have to deal with the battery.
Quest if you want more portable and can live with the other potential issues, otherwise this, or wait for/ import Index.

    • Honestly I had the Rift S a few weeks ago and returned it after 24 hours. I thought it was really disappointing. All I can say is I suggest anyone looking at current gen VR go and try one out somewhere before investing. Also consider the power of your PC, I'm using a 2070 super/3700x and couldn't believe how low res it all was. We're talking PSVR graphics here in a $2k+ PC. There was zero sickness but at the same time I couldn't enjoy the game with those visuals nowadays. I ended up spending 3x the price to get an ultrawide monitor but I'm extremely happy with that for my sim racing and flying sims at least.

      • interesting …

usually heard the other way round

        • Yeah a lot of people prefer VR once they try it, I definitely did not. It needs to be at least twice as good before I could stand to use it regularly. Then again most people who use it when pressed will tell you that they use the VR for short sessions but screen for longer sessions. I just wanted to drop in my 2c that once you pop there are some that would still stop.

He just has a higher expectation.
He might be waiting for something like this

      • For sims what you want is the HP Reverb, $999 from HP Store. Much better screen (and audio) than the Rift S… 2160x2160 per eye instead of 1280x1440, and 90hz refresh instead of 80hz. Also larger FOV than Rift S (but smaller than Odyssey+).

Downside is shitty controllers, but that's not an issue if you don't use it for room scale games.

    • Haven't owned Vive, have owned Samsung Oddysee and do own Oculus Rift touch and I'm close to saying Quest because there's no cables.

  • +3

Hard to recommend this when pretty much every VR use case is now covered by some headset in the A$500-1000 range.

  • the samsung odyssey+ is on amazon.com for $229 usd. its roughly $440 aud with shipping, gst and exchange rate.

    • Don't do it, lenses are terribad making the superior screen pointless, stick with Oculus, Valve or HTC.

      • well $400 vs 2k is a big jump in cost.

        • how is it compared to rift-S at 599

          • @dcep: I've had both and would stick to the Rift S if you want to use it for room scale games… Controllers and tracking on Rift are much better. The software is better too.

Screen on Rift is lower refresh (80hz vs 90hz) and has greyer blacks (LCD vs OLED). Rift S image is a bit crisper/clearer but on the other hand shows more noticeable aliasing and screen door effect compared to a softer image on the Odyssey+.

            • @v8o: im only using mine for sim racing & new HL when its out so it should be fine

    • Says doesn't ship to aus for me…

  • Wow they really spared no expense giving it that iconic McLaren orange.

  • Hmmmm…. base stations not included?

  • is this made due to the fact that norris is now streaming? lol
