I feel like the existence of the B9 will prevent the C9 from dropping as low as it had previously

    • +6

thats what they are doing now, they have upped the c9 prices to push people to buy the b9, but give it time will start to fall again

      • +2

Spot on. We were seeing eBay deals for the 65" C9 as low as $3k, but now you're lucky to dip below $3400. RRP has risen to $4495, which is a ridiculous increase if anyone was paying attention to the deals before the B9 (finally) hit the market. Several retailers acting like anything below $4400 now on the 65" C9 is a massive deal.

Kinda makes me happy now I wont buy a c9 and wait for the c10 which will be announced in just over a month. I still can't believe how cheap oleds have gotten.

          • +1

@Immer besser: It will be a while before the C10 becomes $3k like the recent C9 prices though. Can't imagine there being any significant improvements over the C9 that will justify the price difference at launch. Depends if you're happy to wait a year or so I guess.

          • @Immer besser: .. I read that some new big players (Chinese) have geared-up to produce only OLEDs from 2020 and onwards …. just can't remember the source of the article.

        Resist, brothers!

  • Is the panel the same as the C9? Key difference in reading appears to be the processor.

      B9 also doesn't support 4k hdr 120hz.and the screen isn't as bright by 150nits.

      • Where are you getting that from re: the frame rate? I know CNET said it doesn't support it, but according to the G-Sync website, all 2019 LG OLEDs are getting support for G-Sync at 4K@120Hz, and every other website seems to support that idea. LG website lists support for 4K@120Hz too.

        • It supports 4k 120hz but the chipest cant handle 4k HDR 120hz. Its mentioned multiple times in the AV forums.

          • @Immer besser: Right, gotcha, misunderstood your original post. You're absolutely right about the brightness, too.

But to be fair, no current gaming console (most likely use case) can do 4K 120Hz with HDR currently either, and no current graphics card supports HDMI 2.1. Project Scarlett and PS5 are expected to be native 4k at 60fps with the capability to go 120fps, so they're unlikely to make full use of it either.

I don't think the case for 4k 120hz HDR is currently there, and won't be for some time except for those with thousands to splash on the highest-end PC possible on maybe the next-gen of GPUs.

@exnihil0: Yeah that is true can't see there being much use for 4k120 hdr. Phil Spencer did mention gaming beyond 60fps with scarlett but i'm assuming that will be mainly indie games or remasters. Either way super keen to see what next gen offers and what LG announce for the b10/c10 at CES. I'm keen to upgrade my B6 but feel like i'm in this weird limbo between 4k and 8k and 65 vs 77 inch. I massively regretted getting a 55 over the 65 with the b6.

  • Its more about LG and the discount it is providing on these sets to the retailers. With the B9 on the streets they may be focusing on it…

Bummer if that's the case as I was looking at the C9, although B9 is a great set also.

  • Wow these are dropping fast.

Good overview (if you can tolerate Linus) for those interested in this TV for gaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwyYYFKWEAg
However, if you're not predominantly gaming I'd opt for the C9 for the better processor.

  • Does anyone know, if this B9 model 65B9PTA will get the GSYNC firmware upgrade?

I assume this is the same sale, $1560 + shipping for the 55" B9. Currently $1995 on sale around town.

Does anyone like JB HIFI etc. price match for these kinds of deals or no?

EDIT: The 55" C9 is $1984 too, though there's a post from a few weeks ago where it was $1850-odd. Don't like my chances of getting it for that price anytime soon though.

Where is the C9 for $1984?

      • Sorry mate, I didn't realise it was only up to $300 off :(

        • +1

damn! got me excited haha all good. hoping for a deal tomorrow but not looking good right now :(

          • @drinkin-beer: You & me both, I'm really keen on the 55C9 now. Can't believe that $1836 deal from a month ago, spewing I missed out on that. Fingers crossed for tomorrow but yeah it's not looking great at the moment.

    • Black Friday tomorrow, we can hope for some good deals!

  • No decent sales on the 65" C9 on Cyber Monday?!

    • The B9 swooped in and the C9 deals dried up… Needed to grab the C9 deal a few weeks back… dang.
