110

Sign up to register your interest in participating for the preview version of Project xCloud. I believe all the game titles can be tried for free. Hope this helps.

Note: Although Australia has not been officially listed as preview country, use of VPN will be helpful.

So game streaming through a vpn? Not good

Game streaming through a server in the States via VPN? Youd get a better framerate having them fax screenshots of the game at that point

    • If you're using a decent VPN, your framerate should be ok. FR is a function of bandwidth.

Your input lag however…your input lag will be about a month haha. Press jump, go away and make a tea, and by the time you get back you may have jumped.

  • I got this working on the Shield - was laggy, but you can see the potential (BTW you can also test with South Korea, who are part of the trial too):

Damn you got me excited thinking this was natively available in Australia

    • Still wouldn’t work with our internet speeds

If google stadia is bad I don't see how this will be any better.

Been playing around with this for the past week. Have managed to reduce the lag quite a bit by once you've connected to the xCloud Dashboard swiping down and disconnecting your VPN on your tablet for example (without leaving the xCloud App) this then will reconnect without throwing back to the splash and showing an error saying this is not available in your region yet.

The lag wasn't atrocious for the most part, played maybe 20 mins of Ace Combat 7, and whilst there were some absolutely perfect moments, the button input made it a fair bit harder as expected, but it just gave me such an excited feeling for the potential of the xCloud side of things.

Tried the same with the Game Streaming side (Streaming from your own Xbox) and this worked a helluva a lot better, though still some lag at times. I haven't found out exactly how it streams from your Xbox, but right now I'm assuming it's going from my Xbox to whatever server in America back to my Tablet. Hopefully once it's up and running in Australia it'll be purely Xbox to AU server to Tablet, even more so when you're on the same local network like it does for Windows 10.

All in all, fun to muck around with for now, and a really solid initiative by Xbox!

    • Thanks I'll wait

    • I've been accepted for the preview, but I don't have an Xbox controller. I'm wondering if it's worth buying a control for this.

How fast is the internet connection you were using? I have a 300Mbps 5G connection, would that make a difference to the quality of stream?

      • I can’t be sure but I did read somewhere other controllers would work. Could be worth picking up a controller in the Black Friday sales but in all honesty until it’s officially launched here in Australia maybe hold off.

I’m using a 100/40mbps FTTN connection so I assume yours would help, but there’s still going to be latency purely because of the sheer distance in servers

I managed to skip over the part that said "Android" and wasted 10 minutes. [wanders off in search of coffee]

  • Should put in the title it's Android only for now.

  • I can facetime you my xbox and just have you dictate button presses to me. Will be a similar experience to VPN'ing to a gamestream service in the US.

The main difference between this and Google is that Microsoft is more mature regarding to cloud in my opinion.

Who works with technology like me, might agree. Microsoft Office 365 was one the best product ever released by Microsoft, it has been around since 2011, later on integrated with your in-house Active Directory.
On top of that, how many times did we have problems with Xbox Live? The most recent problem was during Gears 5 release for expected reasons but other than that It is stable asf.
Look at PSN for example how badly it is, such the way that surprisingly Microsoft and Sony are working together in a cloud solution. Mainly because Sony cannot do it, and to compete with Google since it is becoming mature enough with cloud solution.

I believe Microsoft solution is going to be way better than Google for so many reasons. XBox Live and experience are just few of them.

For those who have some knowledge, you can do this with your own Xbox. I believe most of you guys have fiber at home, and as far as I know you can play from a Windows computer into your Xbox as far as your Xbox is on and in the same network. Set up a VPN at your home and you can play from almost anywhere as long as the place has a decent internet connection.
