Dyson V8 vs V10?

I want to buy a new vacuum and am looking at the Dyson V8 or v10 price difference at the moment is roughly $400 vs $600 (v11 is out of budget). Main considerations are that it can't be too heavy and needs to handle carpet and cat/human hair.

Recommendations?

    The V10 is definitely the better buy, much bigger barrel, better suction power and longer battery life.
