Hisense R8 65" Vs Sony 65" X85G - What Would You Choose?

Hi OZB - am purchasing for the loungeroom upgrade that will mostly see TV, Sports, YT and casting movies. Both TVs in title seem to have pros and cons and their in the same price range if I was to pull the trigger today. In your personal opinion which one would you get?

    Should do a pole..

I don't know enough about tv's, also have not read up on them, but, Sony is a big mainstay quality brand..

I'm still surprised that Hisense can compete and have tv's that rival the big players.

    • Thanks have edited to include it :)

    • Or maybe even a poll

With my Hisense experience I would say Sony 100%

    • have you had the R8? I'd be interested none the less in your experience

      • No I haven't, but simply wouldn't buy one again.

Just abt 2 yrs, i contemplated the same and went with sony even though it’s a little more expensive and never regretted it. The colour rendition is beautiful and the blacks are darker. It’s also really good for gaming if that’s what you’ll be using it for.

The only downside for me is that, the android software means that processing takes awhile and sometime it would crash too but a hard restart would fix it. It happens quite randomly for me, i think its a known issue as well. The up side of the android tv means that you can download apps from the store. Another plus is that it has chromacast built-in, good for casting media from computer or mobile.

    I got the x85G btw

This is a review of the Sony. Being an IPS it’s probably not going to have as good black levels, or potentially uniformity as the Hisense.

Not sure why Sony went with IPS for their mid-range, because apart from viewing angles, and in some cases motion handling, generally VA panels are better.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen benchmark reviews of the Hisense, but providing that the price was right I would go for the Hisense over the Sony. Have a read of the Sony review, it doesn’t sound like a bad TV.

  • No Disney+ app for the Hisense, if that makes a difference for you.
