Bringing Vitamins/Tablets on a Plane

going on a trip to south east asia in a week. and wanted to bring the vitamins i take every day like krill oil, curcumin, spirulina, chlorella, olive leaf extract. usually b complex.

and to make it more simple and to carry less things. i want to just make many tiny zip pock bags with every tablet for every single day on the trip.

i know with prescription medication airlines like u to have it in the box with your name.

but how would they go with this? does every vitamin NEED to be in its original bottle?

So you are asking if it is okay to take a quantity of unsealed pills in a zip-lock bag? Ummmm…..

Probably okay, might not be checked. But probably will, they may be confiscated and/or tested.

Just take the bottles with you.

Go without, your body will thank you ;)

  • Take a picture of the bottle/leaflet before you travel.

  • Don't do this unless you like spending a great deal of your holiday in zero star accommodation, with service staff who are extremely inquisitive. Make sure you also have the phone numbers of both local legal practitioners and consular staff.

  • Airlines won't care but customs might. Even if the pills are in the bottles, having them closely inspected is a distinct possibility. Removing them is asking for an unnecessary delay at best. Why do they all sound like diseases?

You won't get many sensible responses on OzBargain. Normies just don't understand the idea of improving oneself with supplements and nootropics.

Do a google search for something like "travelling with supplements". There's loads of resources.

If you want to avoid any hassles at Customs, then only take your vitamins in their original 'sealed' containers.
Loose pills in zip lock bags is not a good idea.

  • We took our stuff to China and all through it's various checkpoints etc a few months back. Mind you we just put them all in the same mutli-vitamin bottle to avoid hassles and had no problems at all. Also, we just took the 'essentials' multies a B spectrum and some R-ALA and some diatomaceous earth in case of any tummy issues that might have popped up, and that was white power in small plastic container :). "curcumin, spirulina, chlorella, olive leaf extract." you'll be fine without those for a couple of weeks unless you have a specific condition that you use to them for.

so you want to go to south east asia with pills that could be anything in the eyes of the local customs and police.
That's a great way to get stopped by customs and to be Detained..

Not a good idea, I would suggest take the pills in the original packaging, and if possible in sealed unopened packaging.
To go over the top - Perhaps even see a Dr (bulk Billed) and have them write you a letter as to what each pill is and what it looks like.
Do that especially if you do not have the original packaging.

    Risky.

All medicines or related taken with you, even OTC, vitamins or therapeutic/supplements must be easily identifiable.

If they're not, then expect them to be confiscated or a nice long chat and delay.

Rinse and repeat x1000 at your destination.

  • I often take daily medication in an unmarked container cos the pills actually have to be cut in half. Just carry the scripted box with me as well but never been asked about it.

    • Whenever i travel, i always pack a medication kit containing things like Panadol, Hayfever tablets, Diahorrhea tables, travel tablets, my daily multi etc etc.

      Never been checked or anything.

      • Yeah i think it's basically luck of the draw if you get searched or asked what it is.

  • My parents travel with enough vitamins and prescription medicine to deck out a pharmacy. With the vitamins they take the amount they will need in a zip lock bag and with the prescription meds inside the original packaging.
They haven't come across any issues thus far and they just recently got back from a trip to the Philippines.
To be honest though i have seen their bags when they are packing and it does look plenty suss the amount of pills and tablets they have in zip lock bags.

  • I've taken vitamins in zip lock bags plenty of times. I count out how many I'll need for the trip and only take that, as the original packaging takes up too much precious toiletries space. I rip off the label though and put that in the bag with it. Never been asked about it.
