      Typical MSY sale..

    • Just got an email from MSY that they are pretty sure all MSY have stock. I am removing the moderator notes on this deal.

  • What is the cover made of?

    • +5

      Space Shuttle Heat Shields…

      • +4

Are you sure? I thought it was made of Wurtzite Boron Nitride

        • -3

          Can confirm its

          Space Shuttle Heat Shields…

          nice try trolling TightBottom ;)

  • +1

    "(backwards compatible to USB 1.1)"

Useful :) So to fill your usb stick would take around … hmmm … MORE THAN 24 HOURS! So don't (use USB 1.1 that is).

    • +2

Yeah - so true. I have a 16GB Strontium from that recent Centrecom deal that has decided to completely lose the plot a few days ago.

Last weekend it suddenly decided to transfer at a blistering 0.9 MB/sec. It is amazing how slow that feels in real life! But that is solved now, it now comes up as a drive with zero capacity. Completely dead :-(

      • +8

At least you'll be less frustrated now.

  • Bummer! No stock at Varsity Lakes(Gold Coast)

  • +10

Stock available for all branch tomorrow.

    • +1

      Sweet!!

      • +1

        YAY !!!!!!

    • +1

Still not showing up as $12 at Morningside branch.

  • +2

Anybody able to find the read and write speeds?

Searching for this USB drive on Google brings up links to potentially NSFW content

    • Doesn't help that they have the wrong name in the title… Although no specs, here are the correct details: http://patriotmemory.com/products/detailp.jsp?prodline=7&cat…

    • +1

Ha ha me too, not only NSFW, also might cause problems at home with the missus.

I also would like to see speeds on this. Might use it for boot drive for htpc.

      • also be aware that these drives are the ones without the metal shroud around the usb area - From my experience, they break a lot faster than the ones with the metal shroud.

        • from the pic it looks like it does have the metal shroud.
plus it is called the swing for a reason, cos of the shroud that swings.

          http://patriotmemory.com/products/detailp.jsp?prodline=7&cat…

        • im not talking about the holder, im talking about the usb connector, because it doesnt have the metal shroud what will eventually happen is that when you plug it in, it wont detect unless you jiggle it. Then later it just wont detect at all.

  • I have emailed the SA city store to find out if it is available here

    UPDATE:

When I place it in my basket and set the branch as one of the Adelaide stores I get the below - I'm assuming the price will change to $12 tomorrow I will let you know how I go if anyone from SA is interested.

Patriot Lifestyle Swing 16GB Flash Pen Drive (Special Promotion$12, from 5/08 to 6/08)

  • not for Perth WA??

  • +2

I hope your experience is better than mine today at msy - "the system says we have stock but we can't find any"

  • Very good deal. Does anyone know the read/write speeds of this drive? And llama, that's a real bummer, did you get a refund/replacement?

    • So far Centrecom have comprehensively ignored my contact from their website form customer service thingy. Geeze I hate that… doesn't make me feel too confident about buying higher-priced stuff from them :-(

      • Wow that sucks, have you tried calling them/ emailing them through the ozbargain contact form? Facebook usually gets their attention, too.

  • +1

    is this piggyhead or handgun??

  • +3

expect there will be none for Balcatta store in WA. Been there the last few "specials" and all i get is "sorry it's out of stock". Waste my time…

    • +1

      yeah
all the cheap harddisk, video cards, memory cards are always "out of stock"
and they ask me to buy something more ex instead. never been looking at their website for quite sometime, only buy at netplus, PLE and austin.

    • Why don't you call up to reserve it if it's out of stock everytime?

      • +1

yeah, u can try calling the balcatta branch, likely they will pick up ur phone 1 in 10 times.

  • -2

    MSG I can't get enough.

  • +4

    Worst. Product. Name. Ever. :)

    • +2

I read the title as a "patriotic lifestyle swinger"?
now i'm envisioning gay soldiers :p

  • Nuts, didn't start at midnight ;(

  • +3

The USB connector terminals look like a Transformers symbol, so it must be cool.

  • -5

Listed at $22 still for Morningside branch.

I've negged this because it's still listed as $22 on the website.

    • Hi, Do not worry price on website, guarantee sale price is $12 on 05/08 and 06/08.

      • Yep price is finally updated. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that the price listed on the website should be correct. I've been a MSY customer for a while and I'd love it if your website was more usable. As it is I find the PDF more user friendly.

        • +2

neg vote can be removed by clicking on "votes" just below main thread heading.

          just sayin ;).

  • Yes still $22 when going to buy on website

  • Placed my order. Let's see what happens.

  • It is now $12 on the website. I already placed my order.

  • Yep ordered mine too, now waiting for confirmation email.

  • -1

Walked into the Ultimo store (NSW) and got one for $12.
    Its tiny. Approx 2 cm x 1 cm…

    • Any queue? It is usually quiet long.

      • I was the only customer in the shop. This was at 11:00 AM…

        • Thinking of heading down there in 1 hour. I'll just queue the normal queue as I have not received the express pickup email.

        • walked in at 12:30 and grabbed one. no queue.

scored a pink one…haha…no one will steal this baby.

  • +1

none in WA even though it's just 10:36am which is their opening hours. Gave a negative vote.

    • Sorry about that. Delivery to WA is always longer. Please provide your details and we will reserve 1 for you and call you when it arrives.

      • +1

Provide our details where? Not in a public forum such as this I assume?

EDIT: and yes, I did check, but their account here is "not accepting emails"

        • I'm assuming he meant to send him a message throught the ozbargain contact form.

  • Pick up one this morning (VIC), not many people there, only red color is avaiable anyway. read and write speed is soso, but for $12 what you can expect?

  • Picked up one at Fyshwick (ACT) store this morning at about 10:40am. Looked like they had about 10 or so left at that time.

  • Picked up…no pre-order…walked in and no one in store…15 or so left…definately ONe per customer…grrrr
Smaller than I thought and has METAL edges to unlike picture.

  • +1

picked one up from mitcham at lunch time, no queue

34MB/s write and 12MB/s read? Dayumm that's good. Thanks for posting.

      • +1

        12MB/s write, 34MB/s read.

    • Similar numbers on Ubuntu using Benchmark Functionality in Disk Utility

      Minimum Read Rate 32.9MB/s
      Maximum Read Rate: 39.2MB/s
      Average Read Rate: 38.8MB/s

      Minimum Write Rate 3.5MB/s
      Maximum Write Rate: 10.9MB/s
      Average Write Rate: 4.8MB/s

      Average Access Time: 0.7ms

I'm not sure why the write rate is slower, but

The drive feels more solid than I was expecting.

  • +1

no problems at adelaide msy, and no queue at lunch either for me

  • Picked mine up from Morningside just then no problems, has a metal edge + sliding sleeve thing very nice.

    No queue

  • Just picked one up at Clayton, small queue which was good.
at work so can't download programs, but trasnferred a 651,000KB (635MB) mpg file to it in 21 sec. Transferred (read) the same file in 58 seconds. I think that is pretty good! This was timing when the windows trasnfer window closed so obviously not super accurate. Equals 30MB/s read and 11 MB/S write.
Good enough for an OS boot drive?

Mine is tiny and pink (maybe I shouldnt tell people that). It does grind a bit when you swing it out though.

  • Damn. Just realised the Chipping Norton branch is closed. Not worth the wait at Auburn. =(

    • Why the hell does SA have more stores than NSW(only 2 now)? Don't even mention how many there are in VIC!
MSY is not showing much love for the premier state!

  • Late morning web site showed stock (Ultimo);
    order placed;
this afternoon response by e-mail "Sorry, this promotion item has been all sold out at this morning."

Integrity issues here. The web ordering system should make some attempt to show whether stock is available or not. Even though no payment is involved, it's distasteful to be baited in this way.

The people behind this business should inform themselves about Australian trade practices law before someone gets irritated enough to make an official complaint.

  • I sent Ultimo an e-mail this morning as the website was still showing $22 to reserve one per the OP, got reply back this afternoon saying no stock. A little bit annoyed the way this promo has been run.

    • suck it up mate
everyone knows about the god aweful MSY CS.

  • -1

I still preferred 32GB sticks than these 16GB sticks

  • There was still stock at Cheltenham at 6pm today.

  • Awesome. Placed an order, picked up at Auburn - tried to get one for my GF who was with my at the time, but the system was showing the rest of the 6 was already reserved.

  • why is there an option to choose more than one of these products when its one per person??
