  • $14.95 postage kind of kills the deal

    • +4

      C&C for free

      • None in store near me.

        • +1

Keep an eye on PS Store for a digital copy. I'm sure I've seen it cheaper than $20 there from time to time when it's been on sale.

  • +6

If it's anything like Dark Souls, I'm going to love (and hate) it too

    • +5

As a Souls fan you should feel right at home. The combat is kinda different like you have to be more aggressive and less offensive, but it's very addictive once you get into the swing of things.

      • +8

more aggressive but less offensive, this man is speaking the language of the gods

      • More aggressive, and less offensive….how?!

        • 1on1 - Run at them, stop, jump back , wait, shoot, dash forward, rispote

    • +8

May sound like blasphemy to you, but this is better than Dark Souls 3 , the combat is fluid, even edgier, and the risk and rewards are great.

Love this game, every aspect of it.

For portable play with similar tight gameplay check out Hollow knight on Switch( but not a RPG ), it is an amazing Australian developed game

      • +3

I really love the setting and atmosphere of DS3, Bloodbourne looks to be Victorian era inspired which still sounds pretty cool.
I've got hollow knight in my steam library and partway through it. It's a very beautiful game.

        • +3

I started playing DS3 right after bloodborne and the game is great on its own but the combat mechanics left me wanting because bloodborne spoiled me.

When you do get to Bloodborne, choose the Saw Cleaver as starting weapon, that was the one I started with and finished the game with it, no other weapon gave that feel of speed and agility to me in the game

          • +1

@otter-raptor: I used to like the Uchigatana from DS3 because of it's quick attacks and bleed buildup.
But I've switched to the powerful greatswords after a while

            • +1

@FireRunner: I tried a similar stretegy too, but just couldn't use the great sword type weapons as they were too slow imo , yes the charged attack of the greatsword took down enemies easily, but was not satisfying , at least to my crazed gameplay lol

              • @otter-raptor: I’ve found the regular attacks to cause enough damage to stun most enemies after a couple hits. I would just continue to use regular attacks (two handed) to take them down. I rarely used the charge attack because it would take to long and they’d strike me interrupting the attack

          • @otter-raptor: Same boat. I played DS3 after Bloodborne and rocked a katana build and no shield to mimic Bloodborne lol.

          • +1

@otter-raptor: I prefer the weighty axe

      • this is better than Dark Souls 3

hey hey, calm down mate, let's not all start staying things we'll regret later

        • But it’s the truth.

    • +1

If you're talking about DS1 then this game will be weird and feel really different. Same theme but mechanics are actually a lot different. I absolutely loved DS1 but I didn't really find BloodBorne as good.

      • I tried Ds1 on switch, I blame the console being underpowered for making a subpar experience.. will try the original in a PC (when I get around to it lol)

        • I'm jealous I wish I could play DS1 again for the first time haha.

          • @westzod: The experience on Switch has not improved from the xbox 360 days sadly :(

  • +3

Great game! If you're a completionist, check this link out for a Platinum playthrough from an Australian YouTuber.

    • +3

I’ll just look at my own trophy list for the Platinum 😉

  • Only game that I have completed in the last 5 years. Loved it

  • +4

"Ahh, Kos, or some say Kosm"

    • Oh god I got a chill. That boss destroyed me.

  • +5

Frame rate issues and all, this is still the greatest game of this generation.

  • +3

My favourite PS4 game. Absolute masterpiece.

  • +7

Can't recommend this game enough, especially at $20.

One of the few games I'd legitimately give a 10/10, and the DLC is just as good.

  • is this a co-op game?
anyone recommend a good co-op rpg type game i can play with my kid on the same? Just got a ps4 for his xmas present this year.
used to play a bit of FF, Persona, Diablo, Secret of mana, Suikoden etc back in the days

    • +2

Not in the way you’re thinking, but it does have elements of co-op in it.

Game is fantastic, you just need to get used to tightening your sphincter every now and then during boss encounters and, in general.

    • +1

Bloodborne is a very difficult* single player experience. Some of the best local co op RPGs are more adult (Divinity Original Sin 1&2, Borderlands Handsome Collection/Borderlands 3), but you could check out the Trine Collection.

    • thanks for info all
i checked out Trine it looks pretty good will look into it and anything similar

    • +1

Have a look at "Knights and Bikes".

Fairly recent game, inspired by games like Earthbound and Secret of Mana, and also films like The Goonies. Not too hard. More action-adventure than RPG, but it's definitely designed for co-op play, and most certainly kid friendly. You will need two controllers for co-op.

    • +1

Good games for kids with easy co-op:
      - Kirby Superstars (SNES, can be found online)
      - Kirby Dreamland 3 (SNES, can be found online)
      - Hyperlight Drifter (PC, PS4, XBox, Switch etc)

In all of these, player 2 is bound to player 1, meaning that it can die and be revived infinitely, and they can usually go away and come back if afraid, or "warp" to player 1 position if stuck.

    • i'd also recommend Magika - it's a silly fun game with a lot of jokes in it for young and old. It's more action/adventure than a straight up RPG

  • +1

A work mate lent me his copy but I just couldn't get into it. Was running around the dying every 2 seconds. What's wrong with me? :(

    • +7

See the above comment. Working on your kegel muscles will improve your performer in any of the Souls series

    • +3

Git Gud , easier said than done, but worth it IMO

    • +1

Ditto, couldn't even get past the tutorial. No doubt a great game but not for everyone.

    • +1

      Nothing is wrong with you.

That is how the game teaches you.

Don't look at deaths as failure. Dying is actually part of the gameplay mechanics. Use the death as a tool for learning.

Each time you die, you learn something new. You learned how an enemy attacks, that you can't make a certain jump, that you should stop after 2 attacks and dodge, etc etc. But you learn with each death, and get better with each death.

There is a very rewarding experience waiting for those who put their feelings related to death as failure aside. See it as necessary for your growth, and suddenly you will find yourself understanding the mechanics enough to overcome whatever was killing you.

Few games have the ability to show you who you are.

This game provides the opportunity for you to realise you only lose when you decide to give up.

Until then, a hunter must hunt.

    • +1

there are a couple of mechanics you want to use in Bloodborne.

      • use your firearm to stun enemies
      • be aggressive, once you get hit you have a small amount of time to get you're health back by attacking enemies
      • as catdog mentioned below, die a lot. This is how the game teaches you about enemies.

I also hated it at first, but got used to it and now its my favourite ps4 game. This game also taught me to enjoy dark souls

  • Nearest store with stock to Melboure is Echuca - which is ages away. Gonna have to pass with that $15 delivery fee

  • +2

"Fear the Old Bladdd" <Bell Toll>

Mega frustrating game in the beginning till you learn the mechanics (if you haven't played the Dark Souls games). But feels super rewarding after that. Highly recommend!

  • +2

For anyone who doesn't want to deal with the delivery fee, there's an alternative that's slightly cheaper than the game + delivery:

Bloodborne Playstation Hits on Amazon- $17 (free delivery with Prime)

Old Hunters DLC on PSN - $13.45 on sale atm.

So it'll total $30.45 instead of $35 for EB Games including delivery, plus you get some cashback on Amazon.

But I guess this requires a Prime membership (or a sneaky free trial)

    • There is an eb games everywhere, ive got 2 just in my fairly small town… Just do click and collect.

      • +1

Yeah but it's pretty scarce in VIC, guess it depends on the area but it's a no-go for VIC Metro at least

      • couldn't collect near me

    • I recommended this to a friend doing this deal but I told him to wait on the old hunters.

It's worth doing after you've finished one play through of main game.

So, some people aren't going to make it that far or want to keep playing, so they might not need it.

Of course if they drink the old blood and love the game, they'll pay anything for the old hunters!

      • +2

Just be careful because Old Hunters I'm pretty sure scales with New Game and orphan of Kos is such a pain as it already is

        • Yeah it scales, but I guess if you're already doing NG+ then you'll be up for the challenge.

Although that being said I think I was on NG+3 when I took on Kos and was on him for at least a week… felt good finally killing him though

  • +2

One of the best game I ever played. Love it….

  • Just bought Witcher Goty and Horizon Z Dawn CE. Tell me why I should buy this please?
I am a noob gamer. I always choose ‘easy’ level

    • +2

There is no Easy mode on Bloodborne, it starts in high difficulty and keeps ratcheting up until you get good with the gameplay. If you pass the initial stage with a mob of villagers, you have passed the test and most likely you won't put it down as the rewarding feeling is great

    • There’s no difficulty level on this to select from. It’s tough to start with and you’ll die heaps. Once you level up a bit and figure out the mechanics it’s still a challenge but not impossible.

    • There's no difficulty settings with FromSoftware games.
This game will make you a Pro gamer

    • Could do the level opening area over and over and amass blood vials .

Do that classic hard RPG thing and grind till you over levelled

Basically, from the first lantern- which is your health and enemy reset, and it's where you respawn when you die (minus echos/money/exp) just make your way around the area slowly and as best you can, then go back and reset the enemies but the money you made and so on.

Even if you over levelled you'll still get 1-hit sometimes but it at least gives you a chance to learn the enemy pattern before they kill you.

Don't be afraid to look up guides for things. Search what you're looking for specifically, so you don't get spoiled if you can avoid it
It's not always intuitive. They were designed that way since demon souls 10 years ago.

You should start now because with all these deals and new ps4 owners
Hopefully have lots of people answering your call for help

      • Thank you all for you comment. I will try to get this, then.

    • -1

this is better than both of them, but if you don't like a challenge, stick to those for now.

It's not a difficult game as people keep saying, it's challenging to learn

  • No stock from +- 200 kms of my location. :(

  • +4

600+ hrs and platinum trophy, 260+ lvl of my character. It's not only the best game on PS4 but also the best across all consoles of this generation.

    • How long did it take you against amygdala in one of the cursed chalice dungeons?

I think I sat there for over 8 and close to 9 hours.

Those dungeons scared the hell out of me.
Worth it for my first platinum

      • +1

        That amygdala was complete ass.

        And those red spiders??? ****

        • +1

I have arachnophobia so I've tried to forget them.

Definitely feels good when you get that platinum theme though :)

          • @iamhurtin: Yeah, and not a huge grind like DS3 collecting vertebrae shackles and all the +2 rings…

            • +1

              @buckster: Oh God
Those silver knights in ano londor!

The idea was cool but not enough players choosing the right covenants /not enough players in general, turned it into a grind fest for the platinum.

I'd love to read an article about what is the greatest platinum trophy is.
Bloodborne is no1 for me out of my 5or6

Although I guess mgs v should be considering only 0.8% have earned it.
I guess everyone really did get sick of that game after the prologue.
I fear death stranding is heading the same way and Norman reddus isn't big. Boss

  • +1

Greatest game of all time for me.

  • buy one for $35, get a second one for $20.

perfect Christmas gift for the whole family

  • +1

Just checked Suncorp Benefits and noticed that they have 8% off for EB Games. Good enough for me to bite the bullet.

  • No stock anywhere nearby. Oh well !

  • FYI with the GOTY edition, the DLC is included on disc.

  • +2

Brilliant game. Amazing atmosphere. I played Nioh straight after finishing BB and realised how great BB really is. Nioh is like a cheap knock off. Great combat ruined by cheap bosses, repetitive enemy design, terrible map design and absolutely incomprehensible story. BB is genuinely great in every aspect.

  • I got killed over and over again by a werewolf in a dark room for my first hour of playing and never played it again.

Don't think I've ever given up on a game like that before.

It's interesting to see how many people consider it an all time great game.

    • +2

umm… you were SUPPOSED to die in that particular encounter. The game progressed after the death :-/

How did you even manage to replay that encounter without force quitting the game immediately after death and starting all over again?

      • Haha I love that this happened.

First time I saw the game I didn't have a ps4 so a friend brought his over to show me the game (I bought a ps4 the next week of course) and he managed to defeat the cursed beast.

So if course when I got my own copy and saw the dude, I was like,.no problem - I got this!

        One hit death haha.

        So great

      • Oh, what the heck? Maybe my game was buggy or something? I kept respawning and getting destroyed. Off to Youtube now to see what is supposed to happen.
