Who Is an eBay Plus/Amazon Prime Member?

With a lot of deals for the prime/plus members offering free shipping. I'm curious to know who is still a member. Free trials would have expired & you can't keep on renewing with the same email.

We all know the plus membership gets a lot of negative reviews, yet a lot of plus deals are getting up voted. Is this because non plus members still don't mind paying for shipping and are still getting a deal out of it?

My grammar isn't the greatest. May you draw it for me please?

      • You ARE asking the right user, I suppose

    • Anne was a character on the show Arrested Developement.
She was also known as Egg

    Should have a both option.

    • I've reported and added it.

You're not missing out on any deals.

      • im still on trial for both since Black Friday

my first year of membership was $25, and the second year membership I only paid $1. So far 2 years of Plus memberships have only cost me a paltry $26 all up. I have saved at least $100 on shipping costs alone (mostly computer parts from stores that charge shipping like Comp Alliance) and random junk from Shopping Square.

Don't mind it so far, as long as eBay continues to be generous in their offers.

I've definitely been under-utilizing Amazon Prime as my purchases on Amazon tend to be infrequent and the range of TV shows and Prime Music is lacking, I should probably unsubscribe once the shopping period is over.

    • $26 all up.

Good deal. Will you continue next year?

Got Prime early on, it's well and truly paid for itself with the free shipping and have been using Prime Video. Happy to hold on to it.
Picked up eBay plus for $1 on one account, and just took up the $50 git card for joining offer on another account. Probably won't hold on to the Plus memberships unless offered cheap again.

    • How's prime video? Is it comparable to Netflix?

      • try it and see

      • Definitely not comparable to Netflix or Stan

      • +1

There's much more on there for me than Stan had. Not as much content as Netflix, but there is some good stuff.

        Quite enjoying:
        The Boys imdb 8.8
        Jack Ryan 8.2
The Man in the High Castle 8.1
        Goliath 8.2

Carnival Row and Good Omens were OK.

      • I've watched Carnival Row & The Boys, watching The Expanse from the start again before season 4 release. Have a few other series on my list to watch, but considering it's a bonus to the Prime Membership, I'm not complaining.

I use Prime for video and free shipping.

Ebay only has free shipping, and most sellers are just bumping up the shipping so they can move their profit margin to the shipping and make the products cheaper. This isn't sustainable and just punishes people who don't want to pay for a subscription. I refuse to subscribe to ebay. Add in the general mess that ebay have made of their search and sorting and ebay is now a last resort when looking for things to buy. I'll use it if someone posts a good deal, but I rarely go looking for anything there.

I might drop Amazon at some point, we'll see. It has been useful so far though.

    • Amazon's search is a nightmare in comparison to eBay's.

Price + Postage; Lowest First FTW!

      • +3

That doesn't work when there are five different items on the same listing, ranging in price from $10 to $30 and what you want is one of the middle priced ones.

Eg: If you want a 2M USB-C cable, then you search for it and you'll find combined listings which contain 1M cables ($2), 2M cables ($3), 3M cables ($5), and a microUSB to USB-C converter (75c). If you sort by lowest price then the one with the 75c adapter is at the top.

        • +1

Very true, but at least you can cull them using "-converter -adapter" in your search box to remove most of those listings. And since most sellers list the same items multiple times, you'll still find the same item from the same seller anyway that's not in a combo listing.

There's no such flexibility or accuracy in Amazon's search:

"You're looking for HDDs, sorted by price? Sure! Here's our most profitable items at the top; the cheaper items are further down."

"Oh, you've added another search term? Let me just make sure you're looking at our featured products again, and not the cheapest ones."

"8Tb? I think you mean 6Tb and 4Tb. They're cheaper, so they're at the top of your results, just like you wanted."

  • Prime for sure. Already wracked up at least $100 worth of free shipping this month and that's only a handful of orders.

  • Have both.
Only have eBay plus due to it being ~$1. It's definitely not worth it compared to prime.

  • +1

Have both, plus isn’t worth it, though I did get a 64gb so card for 99c, and got the membership for $49 with a $50 gift card.
I thought prime would be a waste, but turns out I have used it a lot, and got it half price in an Amex deal. Amazon are usually close to the cheapest price, if not cheapest, and it is easy and fast.
The free shipping on international deals was particularly useful for items not available here otherwise.
I am on the fence about renewing it when it expires, however. I do think I bought some things I would not have otherwise.

  • Plus is not bad. Lots of good deals on SD cards and things where the seller obviously loads up the delivery fee to reduce the price on the goods itself. Considering it cost me $1 to renew… definitely worth it. Got a $50'ish saving a few days ago on some camera gear thanks to Plus.

I got the Amex rebate with Prime subscription. Prime Video is mostly pretty bad… I would probably pay $15 or so just for Prime Video. Looking at my Amazon purchase history its pretty much all low value grocery items to get various bonus cashbacks. Got one item from the US that benefited from free shipping. But otherwise every other transaction in 2019 wouldn't have happened without special cashback offers.

    • Thrawn, would you kindly tell me what Amex rebate with Prime membership? I must have missed that on my Amex. Ta :)

      • 40% off Amazon Prime on Amex.. came out like 2 months ago…

        • Ah Ok. Thank you. I don't remember. Perhaps it was targeted.

        • Was out last year as well. Had it on one card last year and another this year so 40% off Prime two years running. Both were targeted I believe.

          • @apsilon: ah I must not have been targeted. Can I ask what amex card you have? I have just the basic one which I don't think gives you many deals like this.

            • @Luckyalways: I think it's just Platinum credit and a Gold debit or whatever they call them these days (there's only credit cards on the site from what I can see).

  • The Prime free shipping from US Amazon is fantastic. Long may it last (but probably won't).

Got the duct tape for $6. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/490212 Got a footrest shipped from the US. Plus other assorted items.

I'm enjoying Prime Video especially "The Boys", "Sneaky Pete", "Man in the High Castle". It's better than Stan, not as good as Netflix, but I'd burnt through all the good stuff on Netflix. Will probably rotate through Netflix, Disney+ and Prime.

  • I have both.
Amazon prime is very much worth it in the shipping I have saved, eBay Plus… not so much, but that was because I failed to cancel the free trial

  • +1

Just renewed for my second year of Prime. Tried Plus but then ebay started with all these stupid "find the discounted item" game so I cancelled and haven't renewed. Hardly buy anything from ebay now compared to what I used to before Plus and the crappy changes.

So out of curiosity I decided to do a comparison of number of items ordered between Amazon AU and ebay AU:

2017 173 items bought from ebay
2018 87 items bought from ebay during which I had Plus for most of the year but they also started playing their discount games
2019 43 items bought from ebay

2017 Amazon AU not open yet
2018 bought 18 items from Amazon. Their launch wasn't good but towards the end of the year things changed, prices improved and items from Amazon US became available
2019 142 items bought from Amazon and there'll likely be a few more before the end of the year

So well done ebay. You shot yourselves in the foot by making it hard to find discounted items just as a major competitor launched. If Amazon ever starts stocking sub $1 cables and similar I can stop looking at ebay altogether.

      • Plus way better shipping from Amazon

I've ordered things they turn up only 1 or 2 days later and I'm not in a major capital.

Beats pretty much every other online retailer I've ordered from consistently

  • Free trials would have expired & you can't keep on renewing with the same email.

So, create a new email address. My Yahoo account allows for creating up to 500 disposable mail addresses.

  • On $1 eBay plus, good for free returns, have had prime on and off,.

  • Ebay plus
First year came with a google mini which I sold to cover the membership.
Second year renewed and part offset the fee with the Coles $49 off $100 deal.

Have I saved money? Yep but most has been from the recent $0.99 promos.

What I dislike most is that it’s not entire sellers with free shipping, only select items. Searched out the best price on an item added to watch list and went to buy it the next day and suddenly the listing is no longer eBay plus?
This ambiguity is why i’ll only renew if the annual fee is fully offset for future years.

    Amazon prime
Paid both years, have used free trials on other accounts during prime day to get around qty limits.
Customer service has always been great
Will pay in the future as long as domestic shipping stays with auspost not fastways.

    Shipster
A think was under utilised. For me it was great to have the lower $25 shipping for many retailers- cw, myer, hn, quicksilver, target, typo.
I’m shopping these stores less due to higher minimum spends.
I would have happily paid $30-$50 a year to Maintain it.

  • I had ebay plus for one year but found most of what I buy didn't provide free shipping or any value for me personally. IF I was ever targeted for $1 I would get it but otherwise won't be getting it again. Amazon Prime on the other hand has paid for itself many many times over. Its one I will keep getting provided I continue to find value in it for the things I buy. So far very happy with it. I haven't used Prime Video but may well do so since it part of the deal. I had Shipster & for me it was terrific for what I bought. I saved heaps being a member & would have continued to be a member had it continued.

  • New email each month for free prime subscription, use the +1 trick for Gmail so everything gets sent to the same address.

Got eBay plus for free this year as the advertisement for 1 year free came up in my app, then I was charged as I already had a free trial, but I complained as the ad appeared targetted (signed in on the ap), got refunded and got to keep the plus membership.

Almost never use eBay anymore, Amazon deals mostly.

    • I know this used to work but doesn't Amazon now use your physical address and credit card to make sure it's not a duplicate account?
I was reading you can't have the same credit/debit card and address as your other account now.

      • Works fine for me. No issues yet. Done this about 3 or 4 times this year when good deals appear.

  • I have both. Amazon video makes Amazon prime a better deal than ebay plus. I think I will keep both as I cant beat the shopaholic problem. Dumped Catch though.

  • I live regional, I use amazon enough for prime to be cheaper than postage. I also like to order things individually so I get more packages.

    • It’s nice ordering like a box of tissues for a dollar. You can leave you car in the garage and do something other than go to the mall on the weekend for your tissues and stuff.

  • +1

As long as Prime Video has Seinfeld, I’ll have Prime.
