Best Call of Duty Game?

Just interested to see which Call of Duty people treasure the most. For me, it is a difficult choice. On one hand the Modern Warfare trilogy was great, and I have some of my best memories playing MW2. But then you have World at War through to Black Ops 2 which i think had the best continual story of them all. Then there is the real OG's from 1 to 3, personally never played 1 and 2, but 3 was my first CoD and it was what got me into them. Personally I think the original Black Ops takes the cake, the game with all its zombies DLC was unreal. Gotta give a nod to the new Modern Warfare reboot too, enjoying it quite a lot.

    Battlefield.

    Sorry, had to be done.

    • Love battlefield as well, bad company 2 was epic for its time, BF3 outshines all the ones after it.

      • +4

Completely agree, BF3 just had something special about it. Hours spent tug of war camping on Metro for both sides…

        • +3

Ah Metro, spamming grenade launcher. Love it.

      • Hands down BFBC2 is still the best to date imo. I’d be all over it again if they remastered it for current gen (let alone a new Bad Company). Had so much fun, pumped hours and hours into it. First game I ever 100%’d the XBL achievements.

    • BF2BC2 was the best

  • +8

MW2 was right up there - this current MW is pretty damn good, I reckon. I'm a bit older now so I don't have as much interest in video gaming as I did when MW2 came out.

I've been playing since the original CoDs, by the way. Stopped at MW3/Black Ops 2. Then started back with Black Ops 4 and now Modern Warfare

    • +4

I haven't had much time for the cod's past black ops 2 except black ops 3, this new one though has actually gotten me back into it. Needs more one man army noob tubes though

      • If this MW came out back when I was more heavily in gaming, it'd be consuming all my time. I think it is an absolutely fantastic game. I am absolutely syked that there may be a Battle Royal mode coming out (unless the rumours have changed) - it was the sole reason I got Black Ops 4.

The one you grew up playing with your friends after school

    • Agreed (tho mine was into my late teens lol)
Played the hell out of MW, to the point that I went to a lan with friends and demolished them becuase I was lvl 55 or whatever and they had just installed and started. Good ole P90 ;) Or the shotgun with quick reload for close quarters stuff

      • M1014 was a beast.

Still remember once jumping off a wall into the middle of 4 guys on the other team and basically going 360-one-shotting all four of them.

        • +1

Whoops was both MW & MW2 I played the hell out of

The shotty in Wet Work and Shipment was awesome :)

          • @spackbace: Hahaha I used to always be a scummy sniper on the Wet work map lol. Not proud hahaha.

            • @HighAndDry: Lol was more fun just charging forward with a quick-reloading shotty and catching people by surprise

So many corners between those containers

              • +1

@spackbace: That would've been me getting blasted in the face. Good times.

                • @HighAndDry: Or a knife from about 5m away, still managed to slice and kill

        • did you know in MW, you can make the remington pump shoot faster than m1014 by animation cancelling. shoot reload and then animation cancel by switching weapon twice. click, R, 1, 1. works on bolt action too. hilarious

MW2 on the xbox 360 was the best game of the generation. I haven't played any since then but I have very fond memories of it.

    • Yeah I think that's my favourite of the ones I have played. I recently played the first Black Ops for the first time a couple of months ago and enjoyed that as well. Don't care too much for the Zombie stuff though.

  • +1

    MW2 for sure!

  • +3

Blops 1 and 2. Pity it's full of hackers now

  • +2

Pretty tough, but I think the original MW and WaW were my two Faves. The sniper mission in Chernobyl was hands down my favourite across any game… but I spent most of my time online. Most time on any given game would be on MW2.

    • +3

Do you remember the Christmas themed maps in December? That was a bit of fun

  • MW2 was the most fun but Black Ops 2 is probably the best.

    • It was a hard choice between 1 and 2 for me, black ops 2 had the best story hands down of any Cod, it had heaps of different endings and choices you made actually made a difference, and it was such a good sequel for number 1. I thought the zombies and multiplayer just weren't as good as 1 thoug

  • +2

the first and original modern warfare. Going from years of WWII games to a modern setting was great. It was also the first multiplayer CoD i played on xbox 360. I've loved the campaigns on all of them, and I remember finishing Black Ops and thinking 'this is a movie, book and game all rolled into one'.

  • +5

The one where they go searching for treasure but realise that the real treasure was the friendship they built along the way.

  • I have played every single campaign up until the last 3 games. I would definitely say the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty World at War was also up there with the good stuff too.

  • +2

MW2. Hands down. Basically reinvented and defined the entire genre (as primarily multiplayer) for an entire generation.

  • +3

My favourite is Call Of Duty 2 from way back in 2005 (specifically for the campaign - i didn't play the multiplayer)

"The game is set during World War II and the campaign mode is experienced through the perspectives of four soldiers: one in the Red Army, one in the United States Army, and two in the British Army.

It contains four individual campaigns, split into three stories, with a total of 27 missions.

Many features were added and changed from the original Call of Duty, notably regenerating health and an icon that indicates a nearby grenade about to explode.

The game drew critical praise, particularly for the graphics, sound and the regenerating health system."

    (Wikipedia)

    • I remember playing it for the first time in 2006 and thinking WTF is this, regenerating health? Where's the skill when you can just duck down? These days I'm so used to it that playing a new FPS with health packs (eg Wolfenstein New Order/New Colossus) feels ancient by comparison.

Definitely BO1, played a lot of MW at a lan cafe and had fun but BO1 just clicked for me, lots of great maps and some fun guns. Enjoyed WaW a lot too, so that's probably my #2.

  • Have been playing Call of Duty Ghosts Extinction with my friend past 4 or so years.

Very satisfying feeling to reach to chopper at the end, and then we start again :D

  • 1st goes to MW2 multiplayer with a close 2nd being COD2.

  • +1

MW2 because of the community/friends that played but Black Ops 1 Zombies easter eggs was the icing on the cake

    • +1

Moon was an absolute pain in the ass do do the Easter egg on lol

      • Yeah, took a few hours haha

  • MW3 was the only one i played. One of the first online games i started playing

  • +1

Mw2 holds a special place in my mind. First foray into online gaming and wowee was it amazing with mates
Bo2 also very very very good

    Have only skipped IW

Current MW very very good. I blame ghosts and xb1 for ruining the party atmosphere every cod lobby used to have in xbox360 days

  • I like the one that came out this year. It was good fun.

  • cod4 was the best and most competitive game in my experience. There aren't much BS death like later cods. I still remember competitive S&D, pro mod, learning spawn nade spots, wall banging.
MW2 was just fun. Everything was ridiculous. Noobtube one man army, strawberry jam on your screen, javelin glitch where you poop out a missile when you die, commando pro lunge around a corner, quickscoping, the feeling when you get a nuke, and of course the akimbo 1887 sniper rifle shotguns…

    • /Bind MOUSE3 "weapnext; Wait 2; weapnext;"

      • nah nah use MWHEELDOWN !!

  • +3

Perhaps not the best CoD, but sharing some love for the first game. That thing was fantastic to play with mates on our crappy laptops at LAN parties, along with Medal of Honour - Allied Assault. Many many hours spent with those games, they hold a special place in my heart.

    • +1

I've still got great memories of sniper battles on brecourt and picking people off on the overpass on harbor.

      • Just hearing those names brings back waves of nostalgia… I think this is what it feels like to be old

  • -2

Never watched Home and Away, and never played that game you are talking about.
Open your door, there is a whole world waiting out there for you to experience and enjoy - reality!

  • Having never got into the CoD series, how do they rate for local campaign? Or are they best during online multiplayer?

    • depends the witing needs to be good, campaign is linear but can be fun.

online is mindless fun and extremely fastpaced.

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order

  • BO3 was great I had a very good time

  • COD4. I've played them all since the first and COD4 was such a huge leap with how good the multiplayer was for it's day. I still prefer battlefield but that's another discussion…

  • I really enjoyed the campaigns of IW and BO1.

  • Black ops!

  • My ranks are

    1.Cod 4
    2.Blops
    3.MW3 / Cod 2

I have a strong bias for balanced maps, dedicated servers and a moddable game to reduce all element of luck possible.

I loved the fact the cod 4 engine had bugs like strafe jumping for extra height and distance, wall running, silent jumps and how double tapping switch weapon allowed you to shoot quicker. It added an extra element of skill for the game. Thinking back it was what separated the top tier players from normal players.

I hate the new cods because they don't allow me to lean left and right or walk silently. The reduced wallbang damage is really annoying as well since I used to be able to predict patching through noise quite well.

Had hopes for battalion but that game is dead.

  • CoD mobile fo sure

  • Had to COD4 for me, ahh the memories..

  • MW2 was epic. I was hooked on that back in the day. I'd finish work and come home and play it for 4 hours straight religiously. Good times.

  • Infinite Warfare is by far hands down the best one ever, truly mind blowing. Can't get any better than that one

  • MW1 + 2 were amazing during the golden years of Xbox Live. But nothing will beat Halo 3. Halo 3 simply had it all. Multiplayer, Campaign, Story, CO-OP. Forge. Theater. Every base covered. I cannot wait for MCC PC to get to Halo 2 + 3.

However Reach will keep me entertained for now.

Edit: Gears of War 1 was also fun for shotgun/sniper fun.

  • COD4 offered the most pure multiplayer experience in my opinion, Search and Destroy was extremely fun and competitive.

World at War not far behind.

Black Ops 1 and MW2 were the ones I played the most and probably had the most fun with followed by Black Ops 2.

  • COD: MW is the one that is the most complete COD for me to this day. I am one of the creators of this guide I hope that you will find it helpful and that it will increase the FPS rate.
