    The ideal price is $80,000.

    • NO Discount?

Drive away cost of BMWX3 on Website is $70K..

The extra 10k is the tip for the salesman, as a thankyou for them allowing you to buy the car. It also brings it up to the $80k price required for an investment vehicle.

It is $80k for the X3 AMG.

With “all the bells and whistles”

  • See what the list price would be for the options you want/ get offered. You can check with on Redbook - new cars. It'll give you a drive away price for the state you're in. The dealers can give you a quote with the RRP as well for your configuration.
Then take 25% off and aim to end up between 20-25% off the quoted RRP. I got 22% off a year and a bit ago. The car is now a bit older in the model year so would be easier to negotiate. It would be more difficult to get a discount if your car doesn't have any options though.
If you have access to corporate pricing through work helps as well. Negotiating towards the end of a quarter (i.e December) would give you better bargaining power. Also, you can play one dealer against another, specially for cars held in stock at BMW head office. Get your salesman to show you all stock for the config you want.

    • Thanks for your Inputs.. Is Dec a good time to buy 2019 Model car ( New / Demo) or Jan 2020 would be ideal for it?
20-25% discount is quote Impressive.. I was thinking of Novated lease but the numbers are not Impressive.. Thinking of going to get car financed by putting up some down payment.. What Rate of Interest did you get in case you financed it?

      • December would be OK I think as they'll be under pressure to meet sales targets.
Don't fall into the trap of negotiating finance at the same time as the car. Talk car price first.
Ideally have an offer to get finance from a third party. I managed to get 4.03% from BOQ Specialist which BMW were happy to match. If you go in without a price to match, they'll take you to the cleaners.
Obviously, don't fall for the Ming Moles and get tinting or paint protection. Much cheaper outside.
Think every word coming out of the sales person's mouth to be BS. They lie for a living, specially when negotiating price.

I'm not sure that a BMW X3 20D is a 'luxury car'; it is described as entry-level in a couple of reviews I saw.

Each to their own choices I suppose.

    • +1

Entry level luxury car is probably how I'd see it.

      Like a 320i or something.

Ozbargain experts say “Camry” and invest the rest.

For similar pricing you could get an Audi Q5 Black Edition ……

    Just a thought.

Would like to know how much should be the ideal price for the car

    $41,122.30

and how much discount I should be negotiating with the dealer?

    31.77%

    • I like it.. Has someone bought a new car at this price??

X3 isn't luxury my friend, especially not the base model

    • +2

      I’m not your friend buddy.

      • +2

        I’m not your buddy, mate.

  • If you want to save more money, get a demo or near new (1-2 y.o.) second hand from the dealer. There are plenty around. We have/had a few 2nd hand BMWs in the last 15 years or so, they were/are all good.

    • +2

And if you want to save even more money, don't buy a BMW on finance ;)

I am planning to buy Luxury car for the first time and I am planning to buy BMW X3 -20D

    So..buying two cars?
    ;)

      Oh damn… zing!

Slapping BMW badges on a vehicle doesn’t make it a “luxury car”. Over paying for a base model vehicle also doesn’t make it a luxury car.

You’re paying about 20% brand tax on top of the price. But I guess that’s the price you pay for trying to be the envy of all the other *soccer moms” at school drop off time.

    • the envy of all the other *soccer moms” at school drop off time.

An X3 isn’t something to brag about.

      • But but but…. “luxury car…”

  • All jokes aside, I would not consider X3 luxury at all!

Missing some very basic luxury car features like soft touch panels, quite ride, comfort… Also not very powerful.
You're really only paying for brand and logo.
Keep in mind that most things are optional:
Heated seat, automatic seat … All extra.

    • How about volvo xc 60 then?

      • Haven't personally tried that, so cannot give a comment. Best to go and have a drive in one.

Want my advice? Go check a second hand luxury car and compare side by side. With money for a brand new X3 you can easily get a 1-3 year old RX450h or a QX60 Hybrid.

      • Nice car. The D5 R design seems to be the sweet spot. I'd make a shortlist of cars in the range you want to spend drive them all and compare base features vs price.

      • +1

The Volvo would be a much, much nicer car than an entry level BMW.

Better yet, get a top of the line Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, or Honda SUV and have more luxury for less cost and a more reliable car.

        • I'd like to disagree partially with the second point, luxury us not tech and Gizmo, luxury comes down to smooth drive and quiet cabin (NVH) this is something that you won't get in the cheaper cars for obvious reasons. They target a different audiences, generally speaking reducing noise and vibration adds extra weight and extra weight increases fuel efficiency and the cheaper cars have more important economic targets than comfort targets. Besides I find seats in eco cars to be a lot less comfortable than luxury counterparts.

          • @OpayuOnam:

extra weight and extra weight increases fuel efficiency

            decreases….

            • @SBOB: That's what I get for early morning comments… Lol

Decreases fuel efficiency / increases fuel consumption

  • Dealer offering X3 20 D for $66888 and that too 2018 Model… Is this a good price?

    • Fantastic price. Go for it. Just make sure they fill the fuel tank for you.

    • 2yo car and only $9k off the RRP of a new one?

      Amazing discount!

      • yeah, but the badge will be shiny right?
        :)

  • Drove X3 last weekend.. Was disappointed by the engine noise… XC60 compared to X3 is much better option…

    • +3

Wait… so you're asking about best price, getting quoted prices, without being happy with the car first?

      • +1

        But but but…. "BMW"

      • Assumptions are not always correct….
I assumed BMW would be best compared to Volvo but reality is different…

        • +1

Definitely drive the cars that interest you first before worrying about pricing, if you start negotiations now and then go cold you will be less attractive to the dealer in terms of discounts and level of commitment etc.

Once you know the car you want then be definitive and firm in your negotiations. I do this for a living and have seen what does and doesnt work.

    • XC60

Are you sure you want to buy Chinese junk?

      • Volvo XC60 is manufactured by subsidiary Volvo Car Gent in Ghent, Belgium
BMW manufactures the second generation X3 at their Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, United States.

Which one of these is manufactured in China?

        • +1

          Country of Origin CHINA

          https://paultan.org/2019/07/31/european-customers-to-get-chi…

It may be ‘Made by Sweden’, but the Volvo XC60 will be made in China for European consumption. Volvo has announced the start of exports of the SUV from China to Europe, marked by the arrival of the first batch of cars from its plant in Chengdu. The cars travelled to Ghent, Belgium by train as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

            Who are trying to fool?

          • +1

@spackbace: My favourite on these forums, when people are told "yeah, they are made in North Korea, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and England…" their next remark is "Oh yes, we get the English made ones here in Australia…"

Because that makes so much more sense to make a car in a country next door to us, but to ship them from the opposite side of the globe…
