$20 Discount for Student Samsung Education Store (Reality Check)

After all the hype of the so-called "Samsung education store"-for the students, I signed up for it. It is supposed to have a "Great discounts" for students.
I was planning to buy a galaxy s10.
The marked price for the product on the website was already almost the highest in Australia 1349$ (it was same for almost all the products there), I guess (250$ more than Jbhifi's price for the same product($1099) and actually selling for $1079 after "Huge" discount. Jbhi-fi at least does not claim to give any discounts whereas the Samsung store is claiming to have given 270$ discount. Lol.

The normal Samsung store is selling the same product for $1099 after a huge 250$ discount (same as Jbhifi's normal price but they at least do not claim or pretend to give any discount).

The edu portal, which requires various eligibility including .edu email to quality (and suppose to be for the students), is giving a huge 20$ discount.lol.

After all the hype for so-called "edu portal".

Maybe even UniDays has a better discount than these for other products. Lol.

Sorry for posting as maybe I was wrong expecting a little bit more.

Ironically, the same product is selling for around $850 in eBay. Lol. (with a money-back guarantee, almost 229$ below the heavily discounted edu portal price.lol).
Oh, these marked price, sale, and discounts.
Many retailers,
Actual 10$ product,
some occasions,
price now $12.5, Was 15$ (they don't mention when lol), 20% Discount.lol
Need to be careful as I can see "Christmas sale" in every shop now.

yeah I compared prices for a Tab 6 and the education store price was more expensive that just grabbing it from JB Hi Fi. I even went into a Samsung store and asked them to check and they couldn't explain it.

Samsung official store tend not to undercut their resellers. Similar to how Apple won't ever sell products at below their set MSRP's

You must have missed the Samsung Education Store Black Friday Sale

    Galaxy S10 128GB - $944.30 Delivered

The standard discount for Samsung Education Store is usually 20% off RRP, so it not worth buying unless they have an additional promotion.

As for the $850 you're seeing on eBay, they are most likely Grey Import (without Australian Warranty), secondhand or refurbished.

    • "it not worth buying unless they have an additional promotion"
Yup. That's the point. Why to have an edu portal if you require to have a once in a year "black Friday" sale to get some real discounts.
And also, most of the time, I found that the items are "out of stock" if there is such sale(which is rare by itself).

Plus I bet with the black friday offers maybe it was selling for something similar in other sites as well.

Ya,ebay ones do not offer manufacturer's warranty but I think in the 1000$ range, some provide Australian stock or product with warranty.

      • They have it because some people obviously buy from it, and Samsung therefore make more profit, as they get to sell the item at retail prices rather than the wholesale price, and you get $20 off.

  • Hype? Never heard of it. Did you really expect more than 5-10% off?
