ShopBack Canabalized a Cashback from Cashrewards

A bit of a weird title i know.

But let me explain.

I bought some stuff via Rebel sport specifically to get the 15% off CR rate for the 2 hrs it ran for.

A few minutes ago i recieved a message from Shopback saying my rebel sport order tracked even though i didn't click the shopback banner at any point in time (see here: https://imgur.com/a/yXKCjNF )

Proof that i didn't click shopback: https://imgur.com/a/PutnErj

Proof that i clicked cashrewards: https://imgur.com/a/Gn0Aacd

Seems really dodgy to me… I hope that the CR tracks, but i'm not hopefull since the order number has been accreddited to shopback which is just utter BS.

  • Interesting.

  • You got any addons installed?

I have both installed, but i specifically went through the cashrewards site to ensure it tracked, and even when the annoying SB pop up came on the checkout screen i ensured i ' X ' ed out of it

      • Interaction with the SB addon after clicking through CR has definitely caused their rebel affiliate cookie from CR to be replaced by SB it seems. Usually why it's best to have those disabled.

        • How do you disable the pop up @clear ?

          • @paraneoplastic: I assume you're using the Shopback extension? If it's in Chrome click on the 3 dot menu in top right, More tools, Extensions.

@Clear: Gotcha, found it, that seems really shitty of SB though, to cause the ' X ' to create a cookie…

              • @paraneoplastic: I don't think that's true.

I ran into the exact same situation as you but CR tracked it fine: Clicked through to rebel sport via CR website > SB popup opened > i clicked "x" to close it > i received email from CR saying it had tracked my order.

Thats a shame, but you may be able to lodge an enquiry with your evidence..

Google Chrome Canary if you are wanting to stick with Chrome.
I don't think any of the cookies are shared as the canary version is for developers

        • I always use Firefox browsing and it has many privacy protection features on tracking cookies etc. So I only use Chrome just for SB purchases :D

Contacted the SB rep for their input, looks like no response (not suprised)

      Hi parenoplastic,

We've just responded to your PM for a request of your account details to take a deeper dive.

Do note that we're not bots - we can't monitor and respond to comments 24/7.

      • What is Shopbacks phone number so we can call to discuss issues?

Thanks paraneoplastic for sending your account details through.

Confirming here that clicking on the "X" of our extension does not override/create a new cookie session. Only clicking on any "Activate Cashback" prompts would do so, and when doing that you would be taken to one of our pages that say "Awesome, name! You're on way to X% Cashback".

As per this screenshot showing the transaction details on the affiliate network + click SB history, no new cookie session was generated:

    • The transaction was attributed to the click/cookie session made from a click to Rebel on 2nd December (check Referral Date)
    • In the click history, you can see the same being reflected for that same click

With paraneoplastic clicking through CR last, we're unsure as to why their cookie did not override ours, as it should with them being the last click. As per tip from bazingaa, you could reduce the likelihood of this interference by using separate browsers.

  • You know whats strange, i made 3 puchases through Cashrewards and i didnt get any emails recongising the 3 purchases :(

    Shopback sends it almost instantly.

Raise a ticket with them then..

Do you have both extensions enabled on the same browser?

      • +1

May i ask what extensions enabled means?

whenever i do a purchase, i close everything and just have chrome on with Cashrewards + that site and never had a problem… but since 2nd Dec, my 3 purchases never went through.

Yup, i've submitted 1 ticket already, gotta wait for another 7 days before i can submit the other.

        Thanks for the help xx
