I've used this promotion twice before and haven't read of any restriction on types of book. The only bad feedback I've seen is when people didn't realize its capped at $10 and one transaction per customer. Basically if you pick a book that's $20 you'll be making the most of it.

How long can it take before it's clear that it at least WILL work? Anything I need to do?
Usually wait a couple of days for it to track, unless its been really busy like black friday. If it still hasn't tracked the you can lodge a claim manually.
Was this the Shopback deal on the 7th of December? The Shopback website states that tracking confirmation will come through after two days.
If tracking doesn't appear then you can lodge a missing cashback claim by going back to your Click History tab within your account and filling in the form attached to the click through, associated with your transaction on the Book Depository website.

Prices are a bit steep so I'm hoping that we can use the 15% off code as well. I'm looking at The Inn by James Petterson which I can get on Amazon for $16. Booktopia is $24, though there is a new edition on Booktopia that I can pre-order at $15.37.

I've never used Shopback before, but there's a book I really want. Do I just follow the link through to BD and buy the book? Then wait for the cash back?
Also I want to buy a book that's $18.28, then with GIFT15 it takes it down to $15.53. Does that make the book cost $5.53 or something different?
Using the GIFT15 code might make the transaction ineligible for cashback because that code has not been listed on the Shopback website, as allowed to be used with this 50% cashback offer.

The cashback is calculated using the pre-GST cost of the book you want to buy. In your case the before GST price of your book is approximately $16.62, therefore the 50% cashback would be close to $8.31.
Tracking confirmation takes up to two days usually, if successful and payment of cashback takes much longer up to 75 days.
Best you check prices on Amazon first for the books you are buying - sometimes not worth the long delivery for a little bit of saving.

Always check at Amazon where the delivery is coming from as most of the book deliveries are from Book Depository anyway, they are owned by Amazon.
