Do You Provide Photo ID and Credit Card Copy to Agoda?

I received an email from Agoda requesting to submit copy of my photo ID and credit card for identity check so as to confirm my booking.

At first I thought it was a scam, so I contacted hotel but I was told the hotel never made such request. As such, I ignored the email. A few days later, I received an email from Agoda advising my booking has been cancelled. I contacted Agoda and was told it’s the requirement of Agoda for security purposes.

So my questions are,

  1. have you ever received this kind of emails?
  2. Do you provide as required?
  3. Is this legitimate?

I have never got asked to provide copy of my photo ID in my past hotel booking experiences.

Thanks.

No and I'd be pretty upset with agoda if they did that - since you got in touch with the hotel tell them your story and see if they'll do you a deal or at least rebook you at the same rate. They most likely will.

Seems to be way too common.

    Book elsewhere!

    • Thanks for the link, I had the exact same experience!

  • Where is this hotel located?

  • Yes had exactly the same, except I called the hotel and they said it wasn't necessary, so I didn't do it.
URL linked to a docusign.com.au address.

    Questionable

I did this because I had like an almost 10 grand hotel booking that I really didn't want to mess around with because I was in a hurry and they were cheapest I could find.

Card afterwards got skimmed (lmao - sure must be 'coincidence' especially since I used it nowhere else) but luckily it was AMEX and they just replaced it quickly after I notified them of overseas usage that wasn't by me.

Never again screw agoda I hate them

  • If I ever have to give a copy of something important, I try to obscure the scan in some way, lest the Israelites get ahold of it.
I think the whole drivers license thing is a security bomb waiting to go off.

  • They did this to my sister for her Japan holiday as well! She booked a hotel for her last location on the week, paid for it. Then when she got there, the place didn't have the booking because Agoda cancelled it. She found an email asking for verification in her spam but she didn't have internet before that.

  • Let them cancel it and book elsewhere. I have booked countless hotels through Expedia/Orbitz and never had this issue.

  • Never. I patronise Agoda all the times. They never ask me as what they do to you. Why.

  • simple, use someone else

  • Use booking.com instead

  • Agoda always has the best prices these days for me and I find it easier to use when you need to contact the hotel and confirm special request etc than Expedia websites. Their price guarantee actually works and they refund you the difference straight away. I usually use Paypal to pay unless it's those Mastercard offer then I would use card directly. Booked a few hotels for my upcoming Japan trip too, I got like 3 Agoda accounts and never got asked to provide photo ID & card.
