Where Is Everyone Buying Vitamins from Now?

Hey,

What websites is everyone using? I've found iHerb has price jacked loads of vitamins.

Good example:
Now Cholesterol Pro $53-54
AllStarHealth - $37-38 - POSTAGE is $10AUD, but fits more than a few bottles. Good for small orders.

Just looking for different websites, even with Greens Powders the tub I use to buy for $95 is now $150+ on iHerb. Some items are still reasonable, but as always looking to save.

:)

      God I love some of these ozbargain comments

    • You need to take some guidance from celebrities.

    • Me too - to avoid having expensive p*ss.

      Although being mostly WFPB, I take a B-12 supplement and Vegan Omega-3 occasionally.

      Neg, not helpful. OP want's to know where to buy vitamins.

      I buy my vitamins from the:

      Grocery Store:
      * Fruit Section
      * Dairy Section
      * Meat Section

      I will often buy the same vitamins from the Frozen Section. I will also occasionally buy my vitamins in helpful meal sized portions from Takeaway Stores, Restaurants and even Petrol Stations.

      Others in my family will buy vitamins from the:
      * Butcher
      * Green Grocer
      * Fish Market
      * Convenience Store

      Others still buy ground up animals and plant matter, seeds, saplings and live animals and wait several months to years on these products to extract vitamins. In this case, some of their vitamins were purchased with the land (or stolen from by my renting family members) and some vitamins were stolen from the air (element #92 for example).

      Finally, I have one relative who likes to only buy their vitamins once. They recycle their vitamins by releasing used and excess vitamins on to mature living fruit bearing fauna flora.

    • these comments are all very funny. but if you have malabsorbtion and are prescribed vitamins by a doctor food doesn't cut it, and not all of them are available on the pbs.

    Have we evolved to require packaged vitamins? Hasn't vitamin supplementation been shown in a study to correlate with increased cancer risk? (correlation not necessarily causation but still…). Eat your veges and be done with it?
    Now please forgive me for being a two-faced judgemental hypocrite as about half a shelf of my fridge is taken up with this stuff, lol

    • I will not forgive you

      Have we evolved to require packaged vitamins?

      Have we evolved to take steroids? They still work.

    • +1

      Have we evolved to need pharmaceutical drugs to get through the day? Half the population is on antidepressants and sri's or painkillers of some sort. Haven't heard about a vitamin/cancer link but wouldn't be surprised if the propaganda guys spun something like that. Have heard of vitamins HELPING to deal with cancer and toxic effects of chemo etc…

      The problem is that the world changes, society changes and we need to adapt to it. We eat lots of veges but the problem is that the soils they are grown in are fairly depleted in nutrients these days so we need a bit of extra help where we can get it. Still better than eating junk food of course. Hundreds of years ago that wasn't an issue, those guys had other issues to deal with. So while a healthy lifestyle is a must we can always make it better by using the right amount and type of supplements for our individual circumstances. Of course everyone is different so YMMV but those who simply write them off because some establishment muppet told them they were of no use have no idea what they are talking about…usually.

    Unless your doctor has specifically told you to take vitamins, you're wasting your money and paying for nothing but expensive urine. Fact.

    • A medical check every year or six months could save hundreds of dollars.

    • ^This.

      A check-up years ago identified my body is stupid and does make it's own vitamin D, and I had no symptoms giving that away. The long term effects would have been terrible though if it hadn't been picked up…

      Everything else has been good apart from needing iron temporarily during pregancies with hyperemesis gravidarum. Again, tests only showed needing one mineral - surprisingly everything else was good.

      Saved me heaps of money and the 1 vitamin I needed was something I would have never guessed without going to the doc.

  • okay I'll try to be helpful and not sarcastic…

    I have a healthy diet, but I also have a genetic disease and a few autoimmune diseases. One means I have an issue with some vitamin and mineral intake, and the other means the treatment causes a few deficiencies.

    So I need extra vitamins and supplements - for that I go to iHerb (www.iherb.com) - the prices are almost always a bucket of cash cheaper than a local alternative.

    Get yourself checked out by a decent GP first, unless you already have, they can get the blood test done that will show what supplements you might need.

    • Exactly blood test at the doctors and if you are deficient for vitamin/s then it can be addressed otherwise most of the vitamins are a waste.
      Lots of people don't get enough sun to activate the vitamin D in their body and are deficient. Vegetarians/Vegans are often low in iron as iron in meat is much more absorb-able, spinach taken with orange juice or apple cider vinegar will absorb much better than spinach just on its own (dont drink caffeine though as this reduces the absorption rate).
      B12 is a complete waste unless in injection form (noticeable increase in energy).

      Most vitamins absorb better when crushed in to a powder and taken with juice (from the acid and vitamin C in juice). Take near meal time as vitamins can be rough on the stomach in any case. Certain medications and vitamins should not be crushed due to their time release properties. Consult your physician before crushing any medications or vitamins.

  • I have cystic fibrosis and don't her many vitamins from food due to digestion issues, plus some herbs help me tremendously in reducing symptoms. I also eat supper healthy imho…

    I like www.vitacost.com and www.iherb.com.au as shipping is fast and prices very reasonable .

    But it pays to shop around for expensive supplements like TruNiagen, Resveratrol etc.

  • The moment I stopped buying vitamins I started to save money — a lot of money.
    Re-assess your intake. You don't need these expensive items if you follow a healthy diet.
    I even bought my own motor and pestle in order to crush the vitamins and minerals into a fine powder and then blend together with a large protein drink every day.
    I would research all the topics to the point people at the gym thought I was a doctor.
    The moment I stopped, I started to save money and now travel OS every year

    • Have you noticed any impact on your health or energy levels?

    RE: getting your vitamins from your food, there have been articles stating that due to increases in chemical vs. natural fertilizers, that a lot of the "good" that "ought to be" in the soil is no longer present. One of these is sulfur. Our veg is becoming less nutritious over time.

    • One of these is sulfur

      Try NZ.

      • I think I'm a terrible person.

  • Forget the pills, spend that money on eating a healthier diet

  • I usually buy them on priceline online, and delivery is a bit cheaper than other chemists.

  • with a place like iherb - do you worry about the products not passing australian safety standards?
