  • Great deal

  • Unlock @ Fonefunshop for 3 pounds.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Depending on which bootloader is pre-installed this may or may not work.

    • +1

The Fonefunshop unlock will do the latest U2 bootloader from Samsung

      • Awesome. Didn't know they had achieved that.

Just checked site and there it is…

        U1 & NEW Boot U2 & U3 Now Supported as of 28-11-10-2019

  • Can't you just go on Vodafone live chat and persuade the agent to unlock for free? Heard it from other comment sections on this phone deals.

    Thanks for the credit!

  • Christmas gift for granny ;)

Be aware the GPS on these is broken.

    • +2

      Mine is fine

    • i bought this phone soley for the purpose of Sygic offline GPS navigation, speed Cam alart and over speed alert. So far so good

      • +2

My GPS is hit and miss. Sometimes it will not lock onto the satellite. Real pain

        • See if this helps. If it does, consider filing a bug report with Samsung as described in that thread.

    • Sounds like it's an antenna issue. Perhaps the wifi and GPS share the same antenna?

Anyone had a look inside? I believe most phones are built with the gps antenna configured in portrait mode. So that might help if you have your phone in a dock sideways.

Maybe turn the wifi off if it is shared?

Lastly, check the antenna is the right length for the frequency / or maybe moved inside. Maybe even add your own wire antenna, that goes external to the inside a protective case.

Can you unlock this for free or does the fee of £3 work? My s5 I think is had its day and as much as I would like the s10 really don't have that funds but is this one any good? I'm with boost and on a 12 month plan so obviously Vodafone is no good to me and don't fancy paying silly money a unlocking of a phone the appeal of this deal is cost with barcode and free or as little as possible to unlock but sure not want it if I have to pay heaps to unlock. Has anyone had it unlocked.

    • Had no issue to unlock with fonefunshop. Just need to read instructions carefully and easy to unlock. For this price, a20 is fantastic :)))

      • i think the cheapest it's ever been.

      • Can you bugger up the phone if you don't read carefully or do you just get the one chance to unlock and need to purchase again

      • How long does it take for them to approve the purchase? It says: "Paid Fulfilment status: Waiting for approve" after hours!

        • +1

Youll get an email saying it's shipped with the info on it.

          • @Joyoz: @Joyoz do you recall how long did the email with the code take?

        • did the unlock work for you?

          • +1

            @0HDAM: Yes.

            • @Seraph2052: Didnt work for me, may need to call them during their opening hours I think. Keeps coming up with L6 error

  • Is this phone $169 instore nationwide? When I look it up online at a local store it comes up as $254.

Great phone, camera aside, honestly all 98% of people need. Any more is a bit of a wank. Only reasons to look elsewhere are if you need an excellent camera (this one is just good enough for most people), dual sim, or if 3d games are a major thing for you. Otherwise, spend very little and be happy that you are keeping up with the times

    • dual sim?

    • +2

A better camera and good 3d gaming performance can be had with the Redmi note 8 pro.. can be picked up under $300 depending on sales, got mine for $250 through 11.11 sale with shopback cash back offer. There's nothing more you can ask of a $144 phone in the case of the A20 or $250 with the Redmi.. absolutely amazing value with phones these days

    • Whats the best dual SIM phone about around same price point?

      • My note 8 pro as stated above is dual Sim, but I opted for the cheaper 64gb model and used the second hybrid Sim slot for a 128gb SD card. If you need dual Sim just purchase a model with larger internal storage if 64gb isn't enough

      • Redmi Note 8 @ $240 on this site, triple slot, 48MP camera, 4000mah battery. A20 unlocked is around 230-270. But if you mean around the locked price of $169, there's not much, maybe the Umidigi A5. Nokia 6 on a deal. Redmi 8 @ Toby Deals

There's a few that are close to the price in that search ^^

  • Any chance of getting 10% off wish/woolworths gift card?

    • interested to know as well

    • If you know someone who work for woolworth group you can get it for around $125 with a staff card.

  • what's the official duration until Vodafone customer service can unlock this for free ?

    • If prepaid then $50 for less than 6 months and $25 if more than 6 months. Found on vodafone page.

  • +1

    Thanks. Great price

  • Does this have nfc?

    • yes

  • what Android is this on?

    • interested to know as well

    • +1

      It is Android 9

  • Does it have all the band's the Telstra one has?

    • yes

      • So it's the same as the 4gx?

        • yes

          • @tempura: So it's blue tick on Telstra, that's what I care about lol.

          • @tempura: Not familiar with unlocking phones, will this run fine with optus carrier once unlocked?

    • Telstra prepaid A20 selling for $179

  • +1

what case does everyone use for this phone please?

  • Mt Gravatt (Garden city), Underwood (Kuraby) stores out of stock. Some available at Loganholme (Hyperdome). Ring first, as their computer shows some stock which is not available.

    • Capalaba had a few this morning

      • Guy said I bought the last one. Not sure if true

  • +3

If you know anyone who is on Vodafone (postpaid) you can get it unlocked for free
Just get them to live chat with Vodafone and explain they have replaced their handset and are planning to travel
Voda will request an unlock code (takes about 24 hours) and will supply it to you no charge (essentially the unlock website will give the unlock info without fee once the code is supplied by the unlock team)

    • That's ok if you know someone that is on vodaphone only person I know is someone's overseas on contract so probably no good.

    • Or maybe someone who has been on prepaid for a while

      • generally they require a postpaid account (they verify with phone and pin) for them to waive the unlock fees

  • -2

Are thes locked up in bigw or can you grab it at and use self checkout do they question you using this barcode obviously not, my worry is paying for this phone and paying to unlock as posted on deal and can't unlock unless through vodaphone which makes this phone a lot more expensive. What colour is the phone out of interest and is there a comparison with an a20 to the other a models obviously there be price difference but as the other a models a big difference? Plan in getting the phone as my s5 has issues and can't really afford a s10 at present so this can do me until I can afford the s10

    • +1

      Yes

      • Yes to what

    • not sure if you can self serve a phone given that you have to go to electronics counter to get one. The attendant scanned the barcode from my phone without any issues.

I am also replacing a s5. side by side the A20 is better in that it is 32GB as opposed to 16GB, has an FM radio, more updated android system. If you google whatever other phone you are looking at and put 'v A20' it will show you the differences. Some differences with the camera though i dont really know what that means. I just need a phone that works ha ha.

The phone is black according to the package.

Can't attest as to unlocking but I use kogan and as they run off the vodafone network i shouldnt have any issues according to kogan website.

    • The attendant at my store and a printed out coupon and was scanning it for all customer and letting people who didnt know about it so i dont think you would have any problem there. Cant comment of the unlocking part though.

  • I see Telstra has this for $179 and boost $189 with me being with boost anyone know any discounts around that could get these for less? Obviously the above deal is best but be nice if could get similar price

    • I got Vodafone to unlock about 4 months ago. I just said I was going overseas and really needed to be able to use a local SIM.

      • What did Vodafone need from you to unlock it?

  • +1

I purchased one back in August when Big W had it for $159 (only paid $135! one of my fav bargain saves of the year). The phone itself is pretty nifty.

  • +1

Thank you got one at BigW in Belmont WA

  • So what networks do you guys have who got this phone did many of you have to unlock, im tempted on the Telstra one at $179 but if the unlocking works on here or vodaphone unlocks free even better.

  • Picked last one up in Craigeburn! Great deal!

  • -1

Crazy good deal mate… You said it works on Kogan Mobile without unlocking it… I'm guessing this is because Vodaphone provides the mobile service for Kogan… so Kogan is basically just Vodaphone, except it's cheaper :)

I already got a OnePlus 7T Pro… so I definitely won't be needing an upgrade, however, this is an AMAZING deal for someone with an older phone such as an s4 or s5 since it is quite a good upgrade from an older phone like that

Just wanted to warn any of you upgrading to this… The phone itself may look amazing and a good upgrade, however, the looks is sadly the best part of this phone since the real-time performance is quite low.

If anyone is wondering whether this will be worth the upgrade, just comment on this post with your phone model and I'll tell you if it's worth the upgrade

    • İs it an upgrade from the iphone 6 plus? Camera aside

      • It is an upgrade, however in total it really isn't worth the switch. As you said, the camera is a downgrade and the speed and overall phone is only about 20% better than the 6 plus

  • -5

The screen resolution is rubbish. It's like I lost my eyesight.

  • -2

    720p is a compromise, I'd rather 1080p IPS lcd

  • -1

Now that I have one is either contact Vodafone to see if they unlock for free or try and unlock with link give top of page. As I'm boost I need that to work on this.
I could have got the Telstra one for $179 but hoping there is no issues with this unlocking

    • Did you get it unlocked?

      • Not done anything with it yet

  • Stupid question but how much better % wise is it vs the samsung galaxy s5?

    • You would be surprised, the phone has a worse screen than the S5 due to the lack of 1080P… Speed wise however, the phone will feel much faster than the S5, due to the more powerful hardware and also newer and more optimised OS

  • +1

Thanks OP. Purchased and unlocked today.

A little sus on the unlocking company. Unlock tool is identified by Windows Defender as having malware. Ran in a sandbox but process worked more-or-less as advertised.

Great phone for $149. Daughter very happy with early Christmas present.

    • Can you explain what you mean by this:

A little sus on the unlocking company. Unlock tool is identified by Windows Defender as having malware. Ran in a sandbox but process worked more-or-less as advertised.

I got phone today and still to unlock it but hopefully the unlocking ompany works but by sounds of it you had no issues care to give me steps in what you do as don't wNt to mess up new phone or the unlocking purchase, how much did it cost you in total for unlocking?

Bought today for $137 after discounted wish gift cards. Unlocked through fonefunshop for £3 and now working on Optus

    Another Christmas present sorted!

    • Was it easy enough to unlock?

      • Not super easy, but not too hard. There is instructions on the fonefunshop website that's linked in the description above.

Essentially you have to install two pieces of software on your PC, then enable developer mode and usb debugging on your mobile. Then enter the licence code and the software does the rest. Then put a non Vodafone SIM in and enter 00000000 to unlock. Took about 20 minutes all up.

I'd recommend doing it as soon as you get the phone before you connect to the internet and it updates the software.
