I disagree. There are techniques where you use a blowtorch on top which creates a similar effect although not as good. For best effect...

heat distribution is the key. The wok-hey is also a massive change to flavor.

I did with that adapter - and its glorious :) Finally I can enjoy stir fry bok choi and fried rice the way they meant to be enjoyed.
