  • Xpensive Media player - nothing AMAZING - just Branded & Wifi…, CHEAP price though(Normally $300-400+)

    • (Normally $300-400+)

      no, normally $249.95

For that price, I'd rather get a popcorn hour….

+1, same PCH or anything that uses the network media tank OS is highly customisable, plays everything

        • i have a WD TV live too, and it is great but have come across a few MKV's that won't play on it but play fine on the PCH…

my next media player will definitely be a PCH…

Ummmm… This unit you normally sell for $249.95, and NOT $637

Stop with the BS already !!!

    • RRP = Recommended Retail Price. We used to sell this unit for $375+, but this week dropped the price to $249.95 but decided to offer a good deal to OCAU and OzBargain members specifically.

Why are you quoting RRP when you don't sell it at that price? Are you familiar with the Trade Practices Act???

Buyer beware. I have one of these that I purchased over a year ago. In it's day it was a reasonable player but not any more. This model is now End of Life and Netgear are no longer releasing updates for it.

"Play your files stored on your PC" is no longer true as Netgear didn't release a firmware update for this model to match a Windows security update. It does still however play from NAS devices.

If you are thinking of buying one of these I suggest you look at the official Netgear forum http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=99 (notice the lack of activity)

Personally, based on my experience and considering the age of this unit (released over 2 years ago and now discontinued) I wouldn't pay more than $50.

    • Netgear didn't release a firmware update for this model

Rep conveniently left that part out of the product info…

probably better off getting a WD TV live for under $100

    • I had more of a look at the issue with playing files from PC you mentioned and it appears that it's only an issue with Windows 7 and Windows Live Essentials 2011 installed and configured in a specific way. I use XP and don't have any issues, and mostly play files from the NAS anyway (because I don't want my computer on all the time). From my research the problem seems to be more to do with new microsoft software rather than netgear software. Please correct me if I'm wrong though and I'll have a further look.

      • You use Windows XP still????

  • Can not play RMVB file no deal for me

This unit has Wireless-N and built in HDD, unlike WDTV and many others for around that price. Until this week we used to sell this unit for $375+ and other stores still sell it for that price. We dropped our price to $250, but did a special specifically for OCAU and OzBargain members. It is certainly very cheap for what it is and the features that it offers, but if you think that this price is too expensive for a unit with Dual-Band Wireless-N and an in-built HDD then this deal is not for you. Not everyone wants to run around with a USB key or put wires all over their house. Personally I have one of these and a Microserver as a NAS with a WNDR3700 Wireless-N router and it works a treat.

    • +1

If you have a NAS, then a wdtv live with wireless n dongle would be cheaper and better

      • +1

It's certainly an option although you won't get Dual-Band Wireless-N or an in-built HDD or some of the other features. So althought not necessarily better it should end up around the same price.

        • +1

Actually with the dongle - it'll be cheaper. Why need the internal HDD if you have a NAS? Why do you need dual band n wireless to stream video?

  • I have a WDTV and it's awesome, supports more formats than most. I have a wired connection to my NAS (Synology), and WDTV supports playing media through shared folders or DLNA.

  • don't buy from this shop, what they want is took your $$$, after that they won't care anymore, if you want delivery soon, sorry we can't do, if you want your money back, sorry need to wait ……

  • There are no issues with delivery when the product is sitting on the shelf in our warehouse… The only time there are issues with delivery is when something is coming directly from a supplier and something gets screwed up.

  • Your website always claimed most of items you got them in stock, but this is not the case, that is why you guys keep delaying the order, even paid by PayPal suppose payment is(Immediate clearance) which stated from your website, but actually you guys say won't receive payment till next day, am I right ?

    • No, we don't claim products are in stock at our warehouse, I'm not sure why some people get that idea, we don't hide the fact that we ship some products directly from suppliers and some from our warehouse. Sometimes there are availability issues when suppliers get their stock info wrong or stuff gets sold out, but that doesn't happen anywhere near as frequently as you might think. Also PayPal payments come through on the same day, not the next day, so not sure why anyone would tell you that either… If you've been told this I want to know as I'll raise this with the customer service guys, as I don't want them giving people the wrong information. Maybe what they meant is that payments don't get assigned to the order until the next day, but that certainly doesn't stop the order from progressing.

  • I called you guys before I placed my order, and your customer service told me product in stock in your warehouse, that is why I paid thru PayPal, but I still haven't got the goods yet, can you explain to me why is that?

  • I called the customer service to ask them can they send the order to me ASAP, they told me your order need 2 to 3 days to dispatch, I just want to ask if you have that item in stock in your warehouse, why still take 2 to 3 days to dispatched?

I then asked can I cancel the order and they told me it's ok, please send email to us, your customer service just don't care at all.

Is this call good customer service?

    • Popcorn Hour. (C200)

Yeah it's expensive for what it is, but you gotta pay for the convenience of just having something that works perfectly straight out of the box. Every AV connection on it that you could want, plays full 1080p perfectly, and looks like its supposed to be near the tv. Nice remote too…. its not IR, its RF (so you dont actually have to point at device for it to work). I had a WDTV and after 12 months remote was a pain in the bum.

Stacks of reviews online…. do yourself a favour and read them, and you'll why they can charge extra for their product- because people will pay for something like this and not worry about building and configuring your own. Mind you, I LOVE XMBC too.
