What Are You Eating Christmas Day?

Christmas is my favorite time of year because of the food! So I'm curious what everyone is having for lunch/dinner on Christmas Day?

We go fairly traditional in my house roast turkey (on the webber for smokey goodness) with the usual roast trimmings and plum pudding for dessert.

What have you got planned or do you just turn to a friends/relatives place up and hope for the best?

Anything unusual or unique to your a particular culture that you're having - please share!

    Shrimps on the barbie.

    • Shrimps? They'd fall between the slots

      • Absolutely, they are prawns

  • BBQ

You're going to cop a hiding for leaving the staple ham/pork off the list.

      • “Other stuff”

        • I actually had Ham on there but must have overwritten it or something by accident.

          • @Skramit: Sorry, adding the ham option seems to have screwed up the poll.

      What is address please?

      • +3

fingers crossed there is no fire ban on Christmas.

Whats the backup plan if there is!?!?

          KFC?

        • Depending where you live I think that is a poor bet. This is one of the driest years in recent times and almost certainly will have a fire ban more most of the east coast at least.

          • @lunchbox99: our Christmas lunch / dinner is the weekend after Christmas so hopefully the weather will be a lot milder… one can only hope.

  • Free scanner policy Ham - thanks woolies!

      Cheesecake & trifle for dessert

We may need a separate poll for dessert!

    • Always trifle for dessert on Christmas day in our house too.

      • +1

I love trifle. What goes in yours?

        • Some thick slices of jam roll doused with a good slug of brandy. Topped with halved strawberries. Covered in jelly (usually port wine flavour) and let to set in the fridge.
Once set, covered with a 50/50 mix of whipped cream and custard.
Nothing fancy but an annual requirement.

  • Where is the maccas option?

  • +1

Coles roast chicken, will do some roast potatoes, not sure what else but there'll be other stuff too.

  • +2

    Regret

Home made pizza. Yes, seriously. We've done the BBQ thing, and turkey thing (always disappointing), so it's kept low key and casual. There are no kids and inlaws to impress any more and that's a very good thing.

I don't understand the Christmas feast requirement anyway. It made sense a century ago when people could only afford a turkey a few times a year. Now almost anyone can afford to eat it on a daily basis.

I must admit I don't enjoy it. We do BBQ roast pork, smoked ham, chickens, several salads, seafood, several desserts etc. I end up eating left overs for a fortnight.

I've suggested we do something small and simple but my parents, mum in particular, wants the "Christmas tradition".

Kfc cause I like to pretend to be japanese

My lovely niece, and her partner, who happen to be chefs are catering for this year. We've decided to go down the "finger food" route because the roast thing is just too heavy for an Australian summer. It is much better to just graze what you feel like.

    • Lucky!

      • +2

Yes, we do look forward to when they host. My Niece does killer cakes. They look great and taste delicious. On the downside we have a dearth of plumbers and electricians.

  • Working on a mine, so whatever the chefs decide

  • +2

Roast chicken, roast turkey, roast vegetables, pavlova.

  • Tell me when its all over

  • +1

“Turducken” is our Chrissy tradition with roast veggies and salads.
Pav for dessert with all the tropical toppings!

Turkey? You got to be kidding me. Isn't roast turkey an American thing?

I am 60yo and have never had turkey for Christmas. As a kid it was always Roast lamb at the grandparents but its seafood and salad that we have done for the last 40 odd years.

And its not shrimp ffs. They are prawns. Too much American tv for some I think.

    • Ive had turkey the last 40 years. Very much a british ancestral thing I believe.

      • That would make sense. I am actually Scottish descent so I guess I should be eating haggis, lol.

I have done the odd roast over the years but its generally very hot at Christmas where I live so salad, cold seafood and ham, fruit salad etc.

        • couldn't agree more, screw having hot food in this weather

  • +1

    Vegemite on toast

  • Roasting pork, which will then be pulled. Several different things with that: in rolls for lunch, empanadas and chilaquiles.
    Then there's the ham leg…

  • I spend the day with extended family and it is the day of the year I eat worse. Just dry roasts and over sauced pasta dishes.
