Coles/eBay issue, issue resolved.

Hey,

I thought I would take advantage of the spend $100, get 15% off through eBay Plus.

Order total
Subtotal AU $101.25
Postage AU $10.00
Total voucher amount -AU $15.00
Total AU $86.25

Coles deliver order, minus 2 yogurts. They did email about it, and I requested to add 2 other yogurts or how it would affect my order total, but no one replied.
New charges $111.25

Has this happened to anyone else?
In the past when i ordered online, sometimes when an item isn't in stock they'll replace it with something else or off course give a refund. In this case the refund was $3, which actually cost me the 15% discount.

I filed a complaint, and Coles in the past has been very good to me but I'm wondering how many people have ordered just above the $100, and then get 1/2 items cancelled recently & below the discount threshold?

We'll see how it plays up! I emailed and straight up request if I don't get credit, I'll return the whole order.

:)

  • Unfortunately this is just Coles and eBay not in sync. Both Coles and Woolies will refund for out of stock items, while eBay is only going to look at the final invoice amount.

Neither has done anything wrong, I hate to say it's kinda on you for not thinking through that this might happen.

I've ordered online plenty of times, they normally replace the item with someone else and the few times i wasn't happy they refunded me.
The items missing were 2 YOGURTS, they could of replaced it with any 2 similar yogurts which they've done in the past. Chobani FIT to be exact, and they only allow 5 items max per Strawberry, Blueberry.

Just wondering if it's happened to anyone else, Im confident Coles will credit or fix the issue. I use to order weekly from them, and they've always be good about it.

I do agree with you, it's miscommunication between Coles/eBay.

      :)

Is it a scam, or a system error?

There isn't a corporate boot that HighAndDry won't lick and create apologies for so you're better off ignoring it. It's just going to tell you that it's not their fault, so that sucks for you, every time.

Classic case of dinosaur retailer trying to catch up to online retail and failing hard.

  • +4

Yes, Coles and eBay have colluded to get you.. you should report this SCAM

  • You checked out and paid $86.25. Then you got charged extra?

    • Exactly what I emailed them!

  • +2

Haven't you already paid $86.25 upfront on eBay? how is Coles gonna charge you more?

    New charges $111.25? isn't that just $101.25 + $10 shipping?

Coles invoice doesn't show the eBay 15% off amount because Coles gets the full amount of $111.25 with eBay paying the difference.

    • However the invoice has changed, well what they sent me.

I'll have to check my credit card directly and see if they charged me the original amount or the new amount, either way minus the $3 refund.

      • Ah, wekimekigugudan has a good point, eBay discounts are paid by eBay so the invoice from the seller actually is (often?) the pre-discount amount. Check how much you've actually paid.

Could just be that Coles refunded you and that was all.

I just got an email from eBay, about $3 refund.

You're right, I think eBay charged me and Coles is just providing an invoice from their end. My bad :/

          • @[Deactivated]: Hahaha should edit your post (with the edit at the top) to head off unnecessary further angst among the OzB folks.

I've had it happen to me too. Buy something with eBay discount, get emailed an invoice from the seller with the full amount and freak out a bit before I see I only paid the right price.

            • @HighAndDry: Absolutely
I'll report it to be deleted.

  • SCAM

    Not a scam

and I requested to add 2 other yogurts

Your order 'changed' from the original one that had the 15% applied, so was voided.

  • I used to go for these minimum spend but kept going under but one time after spending $150 on $100 minimum (amex deal) then getting refunded $50.10 because of out of stock and portions (meat) was smaller than advertised.

I gave up. Online support said to talk to people in store. People in store said they can do nothing and to talk to online support. Told them both that I won't bother with online ordering. They shrugged their physical and digital shoulders.

    10 cent!

Yeah, it's starting to feel like Cashback to me!

You get a dodgy product, you return it and you lose your cashback!

    • You are ineligible for cashback once you've returned the product because cashbacks are inherently a partial refund on sales commissions.

If the sale was made to the customer, but later reversed when the customer returns the product, so does the commission: it gets cancelled. The cashback company no longer earns that commission so they have nothing to pass to you.

    • That's not that unreasonable unfortunately. Say you got 10% off a $100 product, paying $90. If you return it, you don't get $100 back to keep the 10% profit.

      • I agree with returns, but there is difference between returning a product and being provided a faulty product, or the wrong product.

I actually spoke to Shopback, and they're very happy to work with me. If Catch doesn't approve the Cashback, Shopback claim they'll honour it! If I'm returning an item which doesn't fit me, I understand. If the item is faulty and I'm returning it for either credit, even a refund why should the whole order cashback be void, and not simply just that 1 item?

That's why iHerb, I ordered 6 items and Shopback tracked 6 seperate items! It definitely helps, they sent me the wrong product and now have to refund me. They sent me a $3 vs the $28 product.
The cashback was just under $30, either way I lose? Hardly fair.
Refund my loss, and still receive cashback on other 5 items.

I would never expect cashback on an item I'm returning, however you shouldn't lose a whole orders cashback over 1 returns it should just be recalculated.

  • In my experience, when they couldn't supply items on the order I got a refund for the item value and the discount was not clawed back. The invoice is issued for the amount supplied.

    • Yeah, eBay is who I paid therefore I believe it's been unaffected. They've refunded me $3 from the original charge.
