Mavic Pro Refurbished from Kogan

Hi all the drone lovers,
I'm in kind of a deleima choosing between DJI Mavic mini vs Mavic Pro 1.
From the recent digidirect deal I ordered Mavic Mini flymore combo only to figure out they don't deliver it until early next year. Since I have the option to cancel that and buy the refurbished Mavic Pro for 899(non flymore) from Kogan just so I can get it sooner. What do you guys think is the better buy if arrival time is not an issue?
Thanks

P.S: This is going to be my first ever serious drone.

Mavic Mini. Lighter, smaller, newer technology. Unless you need 4K and fly more than 4km away, which is hard to believe unless you're using it for high budget commercial work.

    • Thanks John, how about the obstacle detection on Mavic pro, since I'm a novice pilot. Don't really think 4k is useful for me as I only have a FHD TV.

You only have forward obstacle sensor anyway with Mavic Pro. And you are more likely to hit something while flying reverse/sideways (which happened to me) because in forward you have the camera to see whats in front.

Just dont take the risk when you fly, be aware of your surrounding, if possible fly higher than all the tree/electric lines and you're good to go. If you want to fly in reverse/sideway and there are obstacles, just consider flying forward and then reverse it in edit or just don't do it at all.

        • Thanks mate, "If you want to fly in reverse/sideway and there are obstacles, just consider flying forward and then reverse" is a nice trick that I never thought of before.
However the more I dig deep, more convincing I get about going with "pro" for additional features such as raw photos and 'active track' which "mini" version lacks. Again I get that Mavic mini is the overall well rounded package with more versatility of carrying and flight time for average person. But being a photography nerd I'd hate to lose raw photo capture.

@glashalful: Yeah thats a fair point. I actually didn't realise that. RAW photos is the way to go on these drones, the JPG version is poor quality. I just find it hard to justify spending $899 for an older technology (I paid slightly less for refurbished pro 2 years ago). If you could be patient and wait for the $624 sale again it would definitely be worth it.

@John: Yeah mate, ended up buying the non flymore version in store. Couldn't spend my Christmas holiday with out a toy to play with :)

    Refurbished Mavic Pro for $899?

Im not that familiar with the drones and their specs, but isn't this the same drone for $624 (brand new!) from Officeworks recently:

This deal is no longer available, but there might be similar pricing in the leadup to Christmas or just after.

    • That's a freaking awesome deal mate, too bad I wasn't into drones until seeing mavic mini reviews :(

If you're patient, a similar deal might come up again!

That was the problem mate, wanted it for my holiday. Got the mavic mini non flymore :D

I would definitely go with the pro, the lighter mini is harder to keep control in windy conditions coz it’s so light the wind affects it so much more, the pro provides so much more stability in the air.

    • Just got the non flymore mini mate, although I agree pro version is the better buy. I couldn't justify doing such big purchase from Kogan due to warrenty claiming nightmares.

Just saw you bought in store, good idea, chances are buying online right now and you wont get it delivered by xmas or even new year given how horrible auspost is.

I must say though, I've purchased 1k plus items from Kogan and know many who do, warranty is usually fine.

        • Yeah mate not getting it by Christmas is something I couldn't risk, just walked in to my local good guys store and bought it. I think I will try to source a spare battery today. Didn't too that long to charge. Just managed try it a little before sunset I must say I really enjoyed it.

My issue with Kogan is since they are online only I got to ship the product to them rather than bringing it in to a store and claiming the warranty when something goes wrong.

Yea, that’s exactly right, for cheaper things it’s alright, but for more expensive things I do like the bricks and mortar stores for that reason too.

Though we bought iPhones in the past and had one bug up, but apple store was happy to replace the device even though it was bought from Kogan, delivered from Hong Kong. But that’s apple service.
