Simple surveillance camera setup to detect intruders while I'm away

Hello

I'm looking for a simple and inexpensive surveillance camera setup for my small apartment. I want to have the camera facing the door (there's only one entry to the apartment) and I would like to receive a notification on my Android phone if anybody enters when I am away.

I'm looking for suggestions, different options and how best to set this up. I assume any option will require a home WiFi network?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Any of those cameras could do what you want:

You could also use laptop running Windows + BlueIris (https://blueirissoftware.com/) with most of external cameras.

It can be setup to send snapshots/video when a trigger is fired (e.g. movement). There's also Android app which can be used to connect to the BlueIris at home and view it through cameras.

Both options should work though the DLink is most likely easier to set up :)

I've been quite impressed with the reolink stuff I have.

  • im getting this as a redemption freebie after buying one of their modem/routers for my NBN to the node service - gets connected on Friday..

Hopefully it doesn't take too long to come, the impatient me comes out to play when I have some form of tech gadget coming..

haven't had home internet in about 8 years, just run off data share with the mobiles and a dongle, so hopefully this will be a good experience.

Are there any ways into the apartment other than the front door?

    • No windows apparently????

  • Anyone have thoughts on the Xiaomi Mi 360 WiFi cameras?
