Toshiba AT100 Tablet (10.1", Tegra T250, Android 3.0) $493 (JB Hi-Fi)

130

Toshiba 10" Tablet

  • nVidia Tegra T250
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 3.0 OS

$493….as of website and courier mail paper today.

Was $562 yesterday. OW still 562 now.
Most of the tablet in the JB store are reduced.

Even the iPAD2 are reduced by a little bit. cant' remember what yesterday's price.
But it's about 30 bucks cheaper than apple store.

Was shopping for a tablet for the last month…seems like a nice deal.
Ipad2 or AT100??

It would make more sense to compare it to the 16GB wifi version(which is $557), instead of the 3G 64GB version don't you think?

      • +1

Oh I thought this Toshiba had 3G, nvm.

But the 16/32/64GB comparison is moot, since a fast 64GB SD card costs like $100, and is a whole lot more practical. And don't get me started on the iPads turn of the century screen res. A tablet is all about the screen.

well….the ipad2 16GB WIFI model would be comparable ($557) against the AT100 ($493). Only problem would be the storage expansion I would say.
But dont worry about me!…not here to argue which is better~~just think both deals are worth getting at this price.

  • Too bad it's so FAT.

    • yep….AT100 is fat and heavy!! Put it next to the iPad….it's an ugly duckling!!
What's with the screen resolution? Sorry, didn't know much about the screen res. Which is better?

If so only the Galaxy Tab 10.1 can win then…

In terms of screen resolution, Ipad would always be… beaten: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_tablet_PCs

        What's with the screen resolution?

You know how Apple, Apple users, and App store apps all go on about "HD" this, "HD" that? Well it ain't HD, not even close.

1024x768 resolution (which is what the iPads are) was common in PCs over 10 years ago. The web was designed for it back in those days of 56k dial up (if you were lucky) internet connections etc. and low res screens.

But times change and the internet has developed to the point that 1024x768 is quite pathetic for looking at proper web pages today. The 1280x800 of the Android 10" tablets is a good improvement, and is still usable on full web pages of today, just.

So it depends if you want to be able to look at full web pages, or be stuck with crappy mobile versions of said pages, or locked in to "apps" to look at web pages. This is over and above the whole flash thing, which is another story all together.

And just to finish off my screen res rant…
When it comes to playing video there is no comparison. The iPad has the wrong aspect ratio for today's (and the last 10 years') video content. So you get stuck with black bars and scaling and hence even lower resolution. The Android tablets can play 720p content natively, because they have enough pixels to do it.

And as I've said before, with a tablet, its all about the screen.

Er yeah but most important is pixel density. For that sized screen, Apple have one of the best pixel densities on the market. Sure it would be totally wonderful if every phone tablet and netbook was 1920x1080, but that's pretty unrealistic at the moment.

        • +1

Its not "most important" wtf? Obviously there is a density limit above which there is no real point in having more pixels (see iPhone4). But up until that point, the more the better.

But to say that the iPad is the "best" density in that screen size is a joke. I have ten year old 10" tablet PCs with that res, and it is terrible. You can totally see all the pixels, as you sit there peering through a keyhole screen at todays "HD" web pages.

1080p is not unrealistic at the moment, its where 10" tablets will end up. The next Nexus phone is rumoured to have a 4.5" 720p screen, available around xmas.

Sure 1080p/720p might be overkill at some screen sizes, but the benefits outweigh the cost, especially for video. Thats the only reason iPhone4 went "Retina" (lol), because it is exactly double the pixels of the iPhone3, so existing apps etc would scale without people noticing.

      • This is true, however do you know anything else that can give me touch screen, and a full size SD card reader? and looks better?

but mommmmm I don't want the toshiba handybook

  • How does this compare with the transformer and the iconia (both roughly the same price now)?

    • Pretty much the same, the transformer has the best screen and slightly better battery life, but the other have better connectivity such as usb 2.0 port and micro usb.

  • the toshiba at100 is named the "thrive". there are detailed reviews for it on engadget and wired.com. imo from reading the reviews it's not the top android tablet, but has some unique features like full sized hdmi and usb ports, and a sdxc capable slot.

  • Galaxy Tab10.1 or 10.1G some ppl call it would be nice to have too. But dont know when it's going to hit Australia market. Dont see it yet in any shops. But configuration is exactly the same as Ipad. but more expensive I think.

    • You have to import the 10.1 yourself, because Apple have blocked it from being sold here. There must be something in it for Apple to see it as such a threat to go to those lengths.

  • just go and import samsung gtab 10.1 it is so much more worth it than anything else at the moment. got one back when it was launching at jakarta for $450 and still could not fault it.. beautiful screen and slimer and lighter than my ipad2. No wonder apple has a case against samsung and not other android table maker.

ended up selling my ipad. but i do miss some of the apps esp facetime as there is none at the moment for video calling
