Just curious if anyone knows a good laptop about 1k that is better than XPS 15? thanks

I am not sure how you'd find a laptop better than the XPS 15 that costs around $1000.

I got the surface laptop 2 for $1100 with extended 3 year warranty albeit the basic model. Great for uni and watching movies.

    • If you go for a plastic range of Lenovo with bigger bezels and not as thin, you could maybe get similar specs for that price. But if you want a slim and lite laptop with similar specs, it's going to be hard to find.

  • Centrecom has this for $1975 if you want it earlier/pick-up.

Good specs but it runs very hot.

    • Thanks I was trying to find reviews but they must have several similar models under the same name, made it difficult.

Running hot is bad for components, which is bad for their lifespan, which is bad for users!

I don't understand why they spec these laptops so highly when they cannot handle proper heat dissipation

  • Is this value for money ?

The Razer equivalent with the same specs would cost double.

  • Is this the full RTX 2070? Oris this rtx 2070 Max Q?

    • +1

It is the Max Q version. The screen is good and support G-Sync. The only thing not good is it use step 10 of i7 9750H instead of step 13 ones. So meltdown is not fixed at the hardware level.

      • Im a noob in this, what do you mean by "step 10 of i7 9750H instead of step 13 ones. So meltdown is not fixed at the hardware level.?
        What meltdown?
        Thank you.

        • It's a hardware-level vulnerability present in some Intel chips. More information can be found here

If you always update your windows to the latest version, you should be fine as Microsoft has patches the vulnerability at the software level. I have got the same model during the balck friday sale. Although its manufacture date was quite close, but it is still using the old batch of i7 9750H cpus (step 10). I was a little bit disappointed for that. Apart from that, I am happy with the laptop. Good screen (a little leak light on top of the screen but only noticeable on all black scren), decent performance and good price. It is running a bit hot if you comapre with a high-end gaming laptop. However, my experience is not bad compare to my old one. The temperature and the fan noise are at the same level. (My old one is MSI GP62, i7 6700HQ + Nvidia 950M) Hopefully this can help you.

          • @zsccat: How's the temperature around the WASD keys? Had to get a refund for a Dell G7 with similar specs I bought in the Black Friday sales because whatever I did (including getting the heatsync replaced), those keys just got far too hot while gaming, bordering on the painful.

Honestly don't care if they run hot internally as long as the don't feel too hot to use!

  • does any one have experience buying from this store?

  • Thank you for the advice, guys.
