Need Help or Advice - My Car Is Making a Creaking Noise

Hey everyone! Hope you guys are having fun shopping. First time poster but been lurking for a year. Anyway, I have a problem with my car.

My car is making some creaking noise every time I turn the steering wheel and while driving in low speed. I just had a new tyre fitted on it a couple of weeks ago and I noticed the noise after I picked it up from the tyre fitment centre.

Does anyone know what might be causing the noise?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers!

It’s probably the kermudgen knuckle. They need replating each tyre installation figment.

  • CV joint ?

    • CV joints are typically a loud clicking or banging noise, not creaking.

Suspension bushes are possibly worn if it's a squeeking/rubbing type noise.

The other thing is tie-rod ends or ball joints in the steering. These will often make a noise if they are dry and worn out and the steering is turned.

And it was only "a" new wheel? Didn't change more than one or get different wheels and tyres fitted? The only other thing I can think of that might cause a noise like that is if the tyre is contacting the inner splash guard in the wheel well, the guard itself or something else in the wheel well.

  • Could be an animal stuck in the radiator fan.

Could be (depending on suspension configuration, hard to know as we have no vehicle details):
    - suspension bushes
    - strut tops
    - weather proof grommet through the firewall
    - tie rod ends or rack ends
    - ball joints
    - steering rack bushes

  • Is it during full wheel lock? The tyre might be rubbing against the wheel arch.

    audio file?

  • If you think it was to do with the tyre shop take it back there. They may be able to diagnose it. Otherwise take it to your service agent and ask them to see what it is.

Freaks and noises are very hard to diagnose without hearing them or being able to repeatedly make it happen. You also need to know exactly what circumstances it occurs under. Eg only when hitting a bump while turning left or only when braking and turning right at 40-60km/h. If you can make it happen while a mechanic is in the car, or observing from outside will help diagnosis.

  • It would only be the fan belt rubbing on the towbar.
A mechanic would tell you what it is better than an internet forum.

  • Hopefully you've realised by now that you won't get a useful answer from a net forum. Take it back to the tyre place or another mechanic. Even a mechanic can't guess without knowing the make, model, where noise is coming from and what the noise is… (hint, I'm a mechanic and have had any number of these questions)…
    My guess though - If it's a falcon it's a front left balljoint ;)

  • The only thing not mentioned so far is power steering belt, but it will make more of a squealing sound. If it makes this sound while turning the wheel when vehicle isn't moving then it's the cause. Also avoid turning wheel when vehicle isn't moving, just a quick small test to find the fault.

    What make/model/year of car?

  • Sounds like you need a new Johnson rod here

  • I think the problem is you are asking this question on a bargain website

Did that help? no, then try an automotive forum

Try an automotive forum specific to your vehicle brand or model.

  • can you get more specific about where the noise is coming from?
maybe take a video of it and put it on youtube and send the link

  • Hey guys! Thank you so much for the help and advices. Really appreciate it.

Just a quick update as ive been busy today. I rang the tyre fitment center and was told to bring my car over so they can check what’s causing the noise.

Car is 2015 hyundai tucson activex.
