Is It True That Kia Rio 2018-19 Has Bad Auto on Base Models?

Hi I am looking at buying a small cheap car and right now I am saving so next year I will be able to buy one.

I was looking at Kia rios base models which go as low as 13k for 2018-2019
But I looked up reviews and they say the autos are bad in them. But the upgraded models like sport and GT has better ones in them.
I have no idea about cars so I have no idea what im saying im sure others dont as well, just asking if anyone has one or knows of what im on about if its true or not or if anyone can help ill be thankful for your time.

  • If you want to keep it while its under the warranty period which is 7-years i believe with KIA, its not bad.

What do you mean by the auto is bad? It's slow? It's problematic? The base is a 1.4 litre engine so it's definitely not going to be breaking any speed records.

  • Best place to ask is the Australian kia forum, post the question in the kia rio section and actual users and owners of this model will soon tell you of known flaws

    You're comparing a 1.4 4-cyl 4-speed to a 1.0T DCT 7-Speed

Not only gearbox differences, but power differences too.

Worth noting that the 1.0T has better power and better fuel economy. But also comes down to budget.

You could always look at buying a 1-2yo GT top of the range instead of a new base model. Still get warranty/CPS advantages

    • yeah! this is it I think, thanks I am gonna save for a GT or see what next year brings us

  • define ' auto is bad'

Four gears = crap, but it's still a good car. It's just not a power house.

If you can afford the seven speed turbo that's good, or find a Cerato.

    • thanks! i looked into Cerato but their bigger in size I like the size of the rio more
