I am happy to admit that I am not up to speed on the latest and greatest mobile deals, so will leave this up to you guys to judge ; )

I found this when trawling the DSE website, then noticed it applied to all of the prepaid handsets on Virgin's website itself.

A few examples:

  • LG Optimus One $149 delivered including $180 credit (consists of $35 credit, $145 bonus credit and 1GB of data)

  • Huawei Ideos $79 delivered including $180 credit (consists of $35 credit, $145 bonus credit and 1GB of data)

  • Huawei G6600 $49 delivered including $180 credit (consists of $35 credit, $145 bonus credit)

  • Samsung Monte $99 delivered including $180 credit (consists of $35 credit, $145 bonus credit and 1GB of data)

Some of the terms:

  • Prepaid phones are network locked & can be released after topping up with $80 on your new service
  • Purchase and activate prepaid handsets before 30/9/11 to receive $180 special offer credit
  • Data has 28 day expiry

  • If you're in Melbourne, Virgin has been having serious data issues with 3G for weeks now…

I'm betting full strength signal and 3G, but No data connection
Many others on whirlpool are having the same issues…

    If you're not yet a Virgin customer…

    STAY AWAY

    before it's too late…

Confirm with 3G issue with Virgin. I am having the same issue.

      • It would be nice if they actually admitted there was a problem and at least had a guess as to when it might be fixed…

As for compensation for having to pay for data and not being able to use it… don't get me started… >:(

        • Yeah, I still on the conversation via email with Virgin Help Desk, asking for some compensations (been about a week now). Maybe, they try to be another Vodafone. But, actually, Vodafone has improved quite a bit. My flatmate is on Vodafone and seems to get a good data connection now, and I used to tease him a lot. So, he just said to me, "That's how karma works". - -"

    • As Virgin uses the Optus 3G network, does that mean all Optus customers are having similar problems? I think not!

      • Umm, I think Optus customers still get the priority even though we share the same network. Maybe, someone can confirm on that.

        • email i received from Virgin Support a while back re: Coverage…

          Response (Kimche L.)
Though the Virgin Mobile uses the Optus network, we are still an independent company with independent processes and procedures. We only use a certain amount of bandwidth from Optus network, therefore, there might be some areas that Optus covers and we do not.
