I bought a Smart WIFI Wireless Plug about a year ago, it still sits in my drawer waiting to be used for something, anything,
why did I buy this thing??

    • +1

If anything use it to monitor how much electricity different appliances consume, just make sure don't use it with an AC or Dryer, check max amp throughput.

      ive got 3 in use:
      - rain water tank under the house
      - exterior garage lights
      - bug zapper on garage

control them all from home assistant. also have a fourth one i use for power cycling hard drives for data recovery. great little devices

I have one controlling the fan in my room, the backyard string of lights, the TV and the bedside lamp in the corner.

Think I've mentioned it before on here but I have one on my wifi which is next door with the neighbours really shitty modem/router plugged into it.

Whenever I get a text from the old dear next door saying the internet is down I can now power-cycle it from my sofa to save me visiting. Gets used A LOT. Has more than paid for itself in shortbread and cakes.

        Love it 😂

And whenever you are feeling peckish, you can cut off her internet, wait for the call, and get a reward. Cool!

Not sure to upvote or down vote, hmm

  • These are great value (even at full price) & do the job very well. Highly recommended.

In fact I just received my second batch of them intended for some summer cooling automation.

  • Is there a difference if I buy the CN plug instead of AU ?
I have a few devices with the round 2 pins and CN plug would help…

    • +1

I suspect it also depends on what you're plugging it into…not just what you plug into it. So you're plugging into an AU plug so you need AU.

    • +1

      It is upside down :-)

The important thing to note is that the CN version has type-I plug on the back (not shown), so will work in Australia.

i brought one of these about 12 months ago and they are they don't pair easily or at all. The older version is better. These are rubbish.

    • You brought it from China?

  • +1

    Does this monitor power usage?

    • I'm wondering about this too. As far as I can see, only kogan one does power monitoring.

But they are like 15$ per piece, and then there's delivery cost too unless you have kogan first from kogan credit card deals

      • +1

This does not have power monitoring.

Kogan has 2 for $35, "free post" (No 1st needed)
I ordered a pair, already have a few Sonoff basic.

  • purchased, thanks.

  • arrived today and got it working with HASSIO, but need a custom config
    https://github.com/peterbuga/HASS-sonoff-ewelink#compatibili…

probably wouldn't get more, plenty of similar prices plugs that interface a lot easier.
