Who Responsible for Breaking The Plant Pot (Housemate Dispute)

My housemate put a plant pot maybe around 20cm in size on the kitchen indoor window sill. Because it is hot today and I turn on the AC and tried to close the window, the window frame hit the pot cause it to fall from the windowsill and break.

She wants me to reimburse the pot. How is it my fault that all I did was close the window?

  • If this legit (which it isn't), replace the pot

  • Just pay for it on the condition it never sits anywhere that the pot can be knocked over. Leaving it in dangerous places have consequences. Small money considering you are living in the same place and it can get out of hand quickly.

  • Lols aside, it seems like you housemate it kinda an (profanity) for charging you 100% of the cost.

  • I did this once it’s on you to replace it, but I never did. It was in a stupid place

OP must be happy to get so many bites.

  • It was all climate change

The climate change made you turn on the AC and shut the window.

Watch the Randy South Park episode on cl imate change, it tells you how lethal climate change I mean global warming is…waaaaa! Maaaa!

Please post a picture of your housemate

Sleep with her mum and become her new daddy.

  • It’s the weathers fault for making you close the window.

Your parents are responsible who brought you to this world

  • Spoonfed much, OP?

Hang on, did she only want you to reimburse the pot? What about the plant inside the pot?

Wtf who has disputes with housemates over 20 (profanity) dollars

    • A broke arse housemate. Or a cheapskate housemate who make everything not their fault even if it is.

Charge a $21 payment handling fee

  • lmao did you even look before closing the window? Surely its not that hard to see? Pay up OP

  • Replace it with a dead Woolworths Discovery Garden. Plenty out there. She'll love it.

  • Just for a pot you end up quareling with your house mate and post in on the forums. Be an adult and solve things amicably. Own up to your actions. Made use of your time better.

  • I love how this petty question spawned a debate about climate change on the first page. Classic Ozbargain :)

  • It's a question of whether you offer to reimburse for an accident, right?

In my opinion, someone has lost something and they are sad about it, and the least someone could do would be to offer to replace it, rather than someone looking to place the blame…

Had a similar situation with over $50 worth of goods in a share freezer that a housemate left unplugged when they were vacuuming.

What would you want to have happened?

    Would things need replacing?

Imo, not 100% (since we were all poor, hence the stocking up of cheap but valuable groceries), but if an offer was there, it would have repaired some of the sadness.

  • No brainer. You are liable for the damage.

No band 28 ? No deal

  • Lucky it was a plant pot, not a pot plant.

  • Daylight savings to blame here. Play as day to see

Please tell me you have comprehensive car insurance!!

    • No. They failed the blood test because they didnt review for it.

  • Put in bin, what plant pot. Haha. Welcome to 2020.

My car broke down yesterday. Yes on NYE! Yes for real!

This is an outrage! This is BS! Who is responsible!? It isn't even 15 years old yet. Who do I blame!? Can I blame Ford!? Can I blame my insurance company!? How about the NRMA who towed it for me!? How about my parents for giving birth to me? I don't want to pay to have it fixed so someone else must be responsible! ;-) Help me Ozbargain Kenobi, you're my only hope.

  • When flatting is it important to be considerate of each other.

Did you two discuss getting a plant, who would pay for it, what kind, who would water it, where it would go?

    I’m guessing: probably not.

Let this be a lesson to you both.

Imo, you should offer to pay half under the condition you both own it now; after all it was an accident.

  • was there any weed in the pot?

  • $20 for a pot plant?! You must be trolling Op :p

  • who give a sh!t really? this post is a waste of electricity

  • Why don't you buy an empty pot for $5 and put the plant and soil in the new pot?

    • That involves admission of guilt doesn't it?

  • Can OP update all of us on the current situation and outcome?

The op no longer has internet. They got thrown out of the apartment and is now homeless because of their pettiness.

  • Maybe you should go all Joker on your flat mate

    They get what they deserve!
