Physical Newspaper Subscription NSW - Any Discounts?

Hi all - trying to get a physical delivery subscription for my parents who are not iPad/tablet literate (yet!).

I know daily telegraph is doing first 12 weeks half price, however are there any corporate discounts / member discounts anyone knows of that’s ongoing?

  • Herald Sun 50% off for 12 weeks. Digital and delivered.

    • How are they going to get the Herald Sun delivered to their parents in Sydney?

      • That is a problem. Ok for any Melbourne/Vic bargainers.

  • +5

Sydney Morning Herald has 50% off their Essential Weekend package for six months, but you'll need an iPad or computer to read it Monday-Friday (the weekend papers are delivered). When it's about to be full price, you can call up and 'threaten' to cancel in the hopes of extending the 50% off offer (I was on a four year streak of doing this before they called my bluff, but just signed up again in the next sale). You also get digital access to The Age if they're like me and interested in what's happening down south

Maybe you can get them an iPad and they can learn to use it as part of New Year goals? The app's pretty simple and iPads are easy to use; my dad's pretty tech illiterate as well, but knows how to look stuff up on eBay and YouTube (where there's an app)

    • +1 on the iPad and subscription. Doing things like the cryptic crossword is much better on the iPad, if only because it will tell you when you successfully complete it. We had a paper subscription, for years, but all the paper and, particularly, the plastic wrapping, was depressingly wasteful.

  • Do you know any teachers? In Vic there are some decent discounts for teachers. Not sure exactly what they are, but they’re good. My friend is a teacher and gets it delivered for her parents because they still want the physical option.

    • News Corp no longer offers the teacher special for The Courier-Mail in Brisbane.

  • I've got at least 10 devices at home that I could get my newspapers delivered to. But I still enjoy walking down to the mail box in my PJ's every morning and getting the paper version .. god made trees for a reason.

    • So your paper doesn’t come plastic wrapped? That was the straw that broke the camels back, for me, with a physical paper.

      • Mine certainly does, and one of the great joys in my life is having it unwrapped by the time I get back up the stairs. Sadly it doesn't happen very often.

        • Too much plastic, for me, I tried reusing it for small rubbish bags but it was a losing battle. Also, the ink from the paper was rubbing off on other stuff. I still prefer real paper books but my newspapers are digital. I can get my hit of cryptic crosswords whilst travelling.
