Arguably their best album. I've never seen it at $15. Lowest i've seen it is probably $23

Description: Vinyl LP pressing of this live release from the Grunge heroes. Recorded in November 1993, less than six months before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged is a watershed document that presents a band at the peak of its powers. Unlike any other unplugged affair, the diverse album is not a simple stripped-down regurgitation of greatest hits or a cash-it-in set of nostalgic favorites. Rather, the live effort is among the most emotionally naked spectacles ever released an album so starkly intense and profoundly personal, it's impossible not to get chills down the spine. The set list is as surprising as the stylistic makeover. Save for renditions of 'All Apologies' and 'Come As You Are', the adventurous material includes brooding covers of the Meat Puppets' 'Lake of Fire', 'Plateau', and 'Oh Me' as well as harrowing versions of David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World', and the Vaselines' 'Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam'.

    Such a good album!

I’d buy this in a heartbeat but I don’t have a way of playing vinyl—I’ll eventually go down that rabbit hole, I suspect.

once you start you won't go back so beware

      • Recommend a decent player?

        • +3

You probably need to specify a budget.

Definitely avoid those suitcase turntables, chances are they will sound terrible and damage your records.

Pro-ject, U-Turn, Audio Technica and Rega all make decent tables.

          • @serideth: I second this. Unfortunately, I didn't have this advice before buying my suitcase turntable and it is terrible

        • The Technics used by dee jays are built like tanks. Thorens are Swiss classy wonders. But when you buy something like this all the other components they must be as good

        • +3

I'd recommend one of the basic Audio Technica models like AT-LP60X. Hard to go wrong and not crazy expensive. You'll need an OK stereo amp and pair of speakers.

As with all these things if you can find a decent condition second hand setup going to be far better. Can check out at garage sales, op shop etc. just google the models on your phone. If got a relative with old turntable they don't use any longer check it out. Anything you buy before using on new vinyl put a new catridge or at least needle on it.

They seemed to get a handful of titles in for Xmas. I didn’t buy this because I got a CD copy from my local Lifeline a few days ago for $1 😎

If you're not listening to everything using midi files on floppy disks you deserve to be shot.

I ripped all my my cds to my zip drive in 128kb mp3. I am listing to them on winamp.
it really whips the llama's ass!

        Oh wait its not 2009.

        • +8

          You mean 1999 right?

          • @iamhurtin: actually thinking back. yes. I might be dialing back to 92kbps though those 3.5 floppys aint cheap while at uni

            • @Gambo: What are these 3.5" floppies you speak of? The only floppy discs I know are 5.25". Must be some kind of alien technology

Buzz Osbourne from the Melvins (Kurt Cobain's idol and the guy who found Dave Grohl for them) goes off in interviews when someone brings up the vinyl vs CD argument. He says despite the nostalgia attached to vinyl it's CD without question and he's right.

The Melvins cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit with actor/singer Leif Garrett on vocals:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA8H_Mnfilw

      • I don't doubt Buzz knows his stuff. But what I can say is at my house whenever I play music on my record player (a rega planar 6) and switch sources on the receiver between tidal & spotify the record is near always better.

Tidal has some amazing sounding "masters" but personally I'm still yet to hear anything like the MSFL cut of Brothers in arms for example.

So I'm totally ok saying the CD is technically better, but I believe a good mixed / pressed record will sound better.

    • In theory vinyl is potentially better. If you spend thousands on equipment and buy the right records. Vinyl from analogue source is potentially better than digital recordings.

In the real world no one really has the equipment and setup to actually appreciate any better or worse.

So I guess the answer is depends on how good the equipment playing back on is.

      • +2

In theory vinyl is potentially better.

there’s nothing wrong with preferences or fads, but this statement is so wrong.

    • +2

Vinyl sounds/feels warm, and there are slight imperfections
at the way the needle runs over the record, that the CD cannot/does not emulate.

There are a lot of factors to consider, e.g. type of listening device (Nuraphones?),
type of cabling, sampling rate of music, type of recording (MP3? WAV? FLAC? Vinyl? etc.), etc.

    • +2

Hearing vinyl rips, they're either the same or vinyl is better.
With that said, both formats undergo wear and tear. With vinyl I've heard rips where there are crackling sounds, for instance.
They should both be lossless. I've read vinyl takes the master tape in a way CD can't, and it has a deeper sound.

  • Gutted to have missed this… .

Their biggest hit 'more than a feeling' isn't on this album.

  • Curious my never mind C.D. has endless nameless on the end wonder what it’s value is

    • Look it up on discogs

  • Cheap, Cool maybe in a frame but impractical.
