Received an email about free shipping from AbeBooks:

"With free shipping on millions of titles, the price you see is the price you pay. Just choose the "Search Free Shipping in Australia" button."

Maybe useful to some people. First post so please be nice.

Beware of stating "First post so please be nice." As proven in the past here, people are nice to the quality of the post and not the fact that it is a first post.

  • Suddenly I can't think of a single book that I want. What's wrong with me? :/

    also when buying books
    use booko
and check which place is cheapest!

  • Abe books was always free postage. Every time I've used them it's been free.

    • No free postage for the no-longer-available stuff I've managed to look up from my wishlist. :/

    • Many books do not have free shipping.

  • Nothing to see here. SOME booksellers offer free shipping to Australia, and others offer free worldwide shipping.

    Well duh.

So it's not as if anything's changed - by and large, most of them are still charging shipping.

    • Can you list some, I'd rather not pay for shipping from Amazon.

      • Amazon UK is free shipping over 25GBP

      • I don't think your comment was directed at me, even though you're replying to my comment?

Couldn't list any if I tried. As scan06disk notes below, it seems to be nothing more than a marketing blurb designed to make the service look more appealing to Australian customers, whereas in fact there's no deal here at all.

as always, use booko but remember if you are spending more than 25 pounds amazon.co.uk shipping is free also. I find that often if i'm over the 25 pounds its cheaper than book depository and abebooks (unfortunately all the same company now)

    • you mean Amazon owns Abebooks but both still work on different principles, somewhat similar but still very different practices

    • Amazon = BookDepository = AbeBooks

…and the regulators were where? How is this not a danger to competition?

  • I get this offer almost every week, marked it spam !, as books I need or a popular are NEVER in the FREE Shipping section or are quite expenisve ! Just a Gimmick to get people to buy something…, NOT A BARGAIN !
