Always keen on trying something new, unavailable locally as far I can see, works out cheaper than Uncle Bens which is probably the most closely related product which is around $3.25 for 250g.

Reviews are good, just add water and your own meat to the mix and your done.

You could even try sprucing it up a little by using this recipe.

Also placed an order on these which seem good value.

Came for this comment and heard it in Kramers voice.

      • I think Jerry’s voice would’ve been more appropriate :P

Except it was Newman who said it…

        • Stockpimp said he imagined Kramer saying Newman…Jerry usually would say “Newman” in a hostile way

  • Son of a gun we'll have big fun on the bayou!

Mmmmmm. Dehydrated vegetables!!!! Sounds about as delicious as instant noodles, only way more expensive.

    • Yeah, I would add in my own I reckon.

Its 1.13 kg and would be similar to 10 packs of Continental rice mix packs, which are typically 2 bucks but on special for a buck often.

      Price wise, it's pretty good.

  • will be interesting to try the pancake mix ..bought some …i’m a big fan of aunt jemima original but amazon doesn’t ship to australia for a reasonable price.

amazon has some interesting deals sometime for food stuff from USA.

    • Seriously, a lot of their processed food is full of modified corn syrup as sweetcorn is heavily subsided, so is cheap and needs to go somewhere.

This is a good Cajun mix. I make a Cajun fettuccini recipe which is a variation of one I used to have at a place in Atlanta.

Happy to provide recipe if you decide to get some. I get my spice from South Melbourne Market.

    • Can you provide recipe? I have some slap ya mama already

Jerk Spice Fettucini - for 2 people

        150 gms of chicken.
        2 Teaspoons of Cajun spice
        a "slop" of rum
        a tablespoon of oil
        1 onion
        1 teaspoon/pip of garlic
about 2 large flat mushrooms or about 6 smaller cap ones (mushrooms cook down so you can afford to be a bit generous with the amount).
        about 150ml of wine.
a generous tablespoon of yogurt or cream
250 gms of fettucini - preferably home made on my Philips pasta machine.
        freshly grated parmesan.

Marinate the chicken in 1 teaspoon of cajun spice and slop of rum. If you can do this overnight, the better, but I usually do about an hour. I use two ziploc bags to do the marinate - a bag within a bag to make sure i doesn't leak.

        After marinading
        - chop up the onion and slice up the mushrooms. I use my magimix.
-Put the oil in the pan and let it heat up then drop the marinated chicken, and juice, into a wok shaped frypan and brown - do not overcook.
-Take out the chicken and put to one side.
-Put the chopped oninon, the garlic and the other teaspoon of cajun spice into the pan and let it sweat cook whilst stirring to stop it sticking.
-Add sliced mushrooms and stir through. Add wine, as required, and then allow the mixture to sweat down. You don't want it to be swimming in fluid just a nice cooked through mixture.

-heat up the water for the fettucini and when you drop the fettucini into the water then also add the generous tablespoon of yougurt or cream and mix through (I usually use Yogurt because it is what I have in the fridge).

-When you drain the water off the fettucini then put the chicken back into the pan and mix through.

        -Add fettucini and mix through.
-Serve and grate parmesan over the top.

I've tried to give quantities but this is pretty much a "by eye" measurement of "that looks about right".

        Hope you like it.

        • Oh snap wasnt expecting you to write it out, thanks!

          Couple of questions:
          What kind of wine?

The yoghurt/cream goes into the wok with the mushrooms and onion right? Lol not the water with the pasta cooking?

          • @ippy: I usually use a Chardonnay for the wine; because that is what I’m drinking when I cook. It works out well for the sauce - a bit more in the sauce, a bit less for me, a bit less in the sauce a bit more for me. None wasted anyway.

Yeah, the yogurt/cream does go in the wok, just getting the timings about right.

There is some discussion that a touch of pasta water thickens the sauce. I don’t tend to because the water is salty.

I wrote it out because it was my interpretation of what the place sold. They used to sell the jerk spice, as well, but they closed with the GFC. The Herbie’s is the closest I’ve found to their jerk spice. You might want to adjust spice levels to your tastes, and the spice you are using.

            • @try2bhelpful: Thanks mate, sounds good!

Yeah I add a bit of pasta water back to the pasta when I make carbonara (when it's time to marry the pasta with the pecorino/eggs/pepper). I don't tend to add too much salt to my pasta water anyway so it works out. Or maybe I'm doing it wrong!

              • @ippy: Something we do with the pesto sauce as well. I wonder if it is because I don't use a lot of cheese here but it does seem to make it a touch salty if I add the pasta water. Saw a thing on Nigella where this Italian lady told her the pasta water should be as salty as the Mediterranean sea and that is very salty; I was very grateful I took my swimming goggles with me. Although it was nice to swim somewhere where you don't think "shark" when you are up to your neck in sea water.

          • @ippy: Juat wondering if you've given it a go yet?

  • Ordered one, thanks!

Great price for imported food I want to try.
